Newcastle Hospitals Quarterly PID Reports

Research Performance

The Government wishes to see a dramatic rise and sustained improvement in the performance of providers of NHS services in both initiating clinical trials and delivering research.  The aim is to both increase the number of patients taking part in research and enhance the nation’s attractiveness as a host for research.

As such Newcastle Hospitals produces quarterly reports to the National Institute for Health Research’s Central Commissioning Facility on its performance against two key metrics:

  1. Recruitment of the first patient onto a study within 70 days of a complete and valid submission of study documents to the NJRO  – Performance in Initiating.
  2. Recruitment of target number of patients to research studies within the time limit agreed with the sponsor – Performance in Delivery.
