Managing my sponsored research

Ethical review is required for all clinical research but is essential for studies involving human participants.  Ethical review is performed by a research ethics committee and the research must conform to recognised ethical standards, which include respecting the dignity, rights, safety and well-being of the participants.

Research within the NHS requires review by an NHS Research Ethics Committee (REC).

In addition to obtaining a favourable REC opinion and NHS Permission, research projects may require further approvals click on the links in the orange box for further information.

You may also apply for your study to be adopted to the NIHR Portfolio.  This will provide access to additional support within the Trust for study coordinators, research nurses and data managers for example. For further information please see link in the orange box.

All necessary approvals must be in place before any research project can commence.
