Congratulations to Matt Gorton – Research Supervisor of the Year
The Business School’s Professor Matt Gorton has been named Research Supervisor of the Year at the annual Teaching Excellence Awards, ran by the Students’ Union.
Exceptional staff from across Newcastle University had their achievements celebrated on 09 May 2019 at the awards. Hosted by Newcastle University Students’ Union, the TEAs asks students to recognise the amazing achievements of staff throughout the University who have provided outstanding teaching or support.
This year, NUSU received 443 nominations for the 12 categories. Winners were then announced at the awards event, with many University staff, student representatives and the students who nominated in attendance.
Jonny Hall, NUSU Education Officer, said: “Not only did we receive more nominations than ever before, but the quality of each nomination was inspiring. It made the shortlisting process both a difficult and daunting task, but being able to see the delight on the winners’ faces made the hard work more than worth it!
“We’ve had fantastic support from students and staff from all of our University’s campuses, and we are delighted that the TEAs have been able to recognise fantastic practice right across Newcastle University. It is our students who have nominated and shortlisted the excellent entries that we’ve received and I really want to thank them for their support.”
Jonny continued: “The teaching quality and academic support at Newcastle University is exceptionally high and we’re very proud to have been able to help celebrate with outstanding members of staff once more.
Each of our winners was presented with an engraved glass teapot from NUSU as a memento for their hard work. I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all of the winning staff members, as well as the shortlist, and thank all the students who took the time to nominate.”
We’d like to offer a huge congratulations to Matt on this achievement!
