NU Covid-19 Research Fund

Across the University, we have many research projects – both in progress and under development—that are advancing knowledge about COVID-19 and helping to mitigate the impacts of this novel virus. Indeed, over the Summer, we launched the NU Covid-19 Research and Innovation Network to help us coordinate our University’s multidisciplinary response to the urgent global crisis, and this network remains open to all colleagues within the University with an interest in Covid-19 research.

Following receipt of generous philanthropic donations to Advancement’s NU Covid-19 Emergency Research Fund, we are now delighted to announce a new Newcastle University Covid-19 Research Fund. The fund will provide rapid response funding to pump-prime new, or progress existing, multidisciplinary research that seeks to advance knowledge about Covid-19 and its impacts.

The fund will prioritise: projects that combine joint working across disciplines and/or with external partners; and projects that leverage external funding, including from commercial project partners when the project is led by the University.

Funding will typically be awarded for project costs up to £20k. We welcome substantially smaller applications too. The fund will formally open for applications on 19th October 2020.
