Celebrating Success: Dr Marwa Elnahass
Congratulations to Dr Marwa Elnahass, whose Green Finance paper for COP26 policy reports is now published here.
Marwa officially received the invitation from the British High Commission and Imperial College London to join the COP26UniversitiesNetwork in order to solely lead a dedicated section (within the Green Finance report) to discuss carbon emissions, climate change, carbon accounting and several related financial reporting gaps.
The report emphasised on the absence of a harmonized financial reporting framework for emission allowances and voluntary offsets. In fact, the lack of discourse on the assessment of underlying assets are hampering the growth of voluntary carbon markets in ASEAN region and worldwide.
The policy paper offers new insights and present critical debates surrounding Voluntary Carbon Markets (VCMs) and also calls for responsive actions by COP 26 policy makers who are currently meeting at Glasgow.
The paper is currently disseminated across several COP26 related events and roundtable discussions, where industry contributors and co-authors jointly present the paper and highlight key insights and outcomes for the study.
Marwa states: ‘I am proud to be part of this strategic policy report (on behalf of Newcastle University Business School) to voice concerns by many researchers and practitioners regarding the need for high-quality information; critical for capital markets and carbon offsets’.
