Nuffield Foundation: Improve the social and economic well-being of people living with musculoskeletal conditions
The Nuffield Foundation, in partnership with Versus Arthritis, is calling for applications for new research projects to improve the lives of people living with musculoskeletal conditions, including their participation in, and support from, work, education, and family life, and their experience of ageing.
Musculoskeletal conditions, including arthritis and back pain, affect over 20 million people in the UK and are the single biggest cause of pain and disability. Despite almost one in three people living with musculoskeletal conditions, there is a lack of evidence on the impact of these conditions on people’s well-being and life chances and how to improve policy and practice interventions.
Up to £4 million of funding is now available from the Foundation’s Oliver Bird Fund. You can view the full criteria and how to apply on Nuffield’s website.
Areas of focus include how experiencing a musculoskeletal condition related to
- Participation in education and training
- Participation in work and economic security
- Experience of the welfare system
- Support for mental health
- Family life
- Support from social care
- Participation in and support from the community
- Ethic, gender and income inequalities that increase the risk of poorer outcomes
In these areas, Nuffield are interested in well-being across the life course, including among children, those of working age, and those in later life.
Nuffield are expecting projects to be supported by this round to be mainly in the range of £50,000 to £300,000 and to last between six months and three years.
