UKRI’s position on strike action
UKRIs position on strike action is below. To highlight, funds can only be used for the cost of activities that meet the agreed aims and objectives of the grant. Funds cannot be used to support any costs towards strike action. If there are unspent funds due to strike action then these must be recovered during a reconciliation process under any fund heading.
Any further questions please feel free to get in touch with Jessica Phanwises, Senior Funding Policy Manager, UKRI Jessica.Phanwises@ukri.org
UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) is aware of the strike action currently taking place, with future planned strikes possible. This is likely to affect organisations and projects funded by UKRI. We expect universities and prospective UKRI funding applicants to consider how they manage this situation in terms of submission deadlines during this period, and any future strike action by unions.
We give as much notice as possible of UKRI funding opportunity deadlines, which are carefully scheduled to allow for thorough peer review throughout the process. As such, we will not be amending deadlines to any of UKRIs funding opportunities.
As per UKRI grant terms and conditions, funds can only be used for the costs of activities that meet the agreed aims and objectives of the project. UKRI funds cannot be used to support any costs towards researchers taking part in any strike action. Any unspent funds will be dealt with at reconciliation as per the terms and conditions of the grant.
