Business lecturer appointed to Vice Chair position with prestigious management organisation
Dr Emily Yarrow, Senior Lecturer in Management and Organisations in Newcastle University Business School, has been appointed Vice Chair of Equality, Diversity, Inclusivity and Respect (EDIR) with the British Academy of Management (BAM) from January 2025.
With this appointment, Dr Yarrow will have responsibility for chairing the EDIR committee and playing a role in the strategic development of BAM. Her role with BAM sits alongside her existing roles within Newcastle University Business School and Newcastle University Senate.
Equality, Diversity, Inclusivity and Respect at Newcastle University Business School
Dr Yarrow’s experience and research in this domain is well established internationally. She has a passion for protecting academic freedom, promoting inclusion and diversity on a professional, as well as personal level.
Dr Yarrow completed her PhD within the Centre for Equality and Diversity (CRED) at Queen Mary, University of London having researched the impact of research evaluation on women’s academic careers. Her scholarly work focusses on and contributes to contemporary understandings of gendered organisational behaviour, women’s experiences of organisational life, and the future of work. Her expertise broadly includes organisational theory, gender and inequality regimes, and governance; which means she is perfectly placed to understand and provide innovative solutions to contemporary EDIR challenges.
Ensuring equality in higher education business programmes
BAM is the leading authority on the academic field of management in the UK, supporting and representing the community of scholars and engaging with international peers. It has over 2,000 members from the UK and around the globe, including management researchers, practitioners, and doctoral students. Its reach is far, and with EDIR as a core ethos, Dr Yarrow’s work; from her research at the School, as well as her existing input into the BAM network, will have considerable significance in terms of the equality, diversity and inclusion within the higher education sector and business community.
