BA/Leverhulme Small Research Grants
The next round of the BA/Leverhulme Small Research Grants scheme opens on Wednesday 4th September 2024. The deadline for submissions is 6th November 2024.
Workshop
We are hosting a workshop on Friday 6th September (9:30 – 16:00), which will cover how to write a successful application to this scheme. We will be joined by Lucy Kender, an external grant writer from GrantCraft, and there will be opportunity for 1-1 support. Lunch will be provided. We are limiting the number of participants at this workshop to ten – if you would like to be considered for a space please email hannah.lynch@ncl.ac.uk as soon as possible.
Internal application management deadlines
This call is our most popular funding scheme and we submit a significant number of applications from the school. In order to manage the application process we have some internal deadlines. This will enable us to provide the best possible support for applications, and help to ensure they are of the highest possible quality.
Anyone interested in applying to this scheme will need to submit an expression of interest by Wednesday 18th September 2024. Please submit a project title and brief outline (2-3 sentences) of your proposed project to nubs.research@ncl.ac.uk by 5pm on the 18th September. Applicants will also be required to have at least a first draft of their costs by Wednesday 23rd October. We will not be able to support applications that do not adhere to this timetable.
If you have deferred your application from the spring round, please confirm you intend to submit to this round to nubs.research@ncl.ac.uk by Wednesday 18th September.
You do not have to attend the workshop in order to be eligible to submit an application.
Whilst the BA/Leverhulme Small Research Grants are small in size (up to £10,000 per award), the volume of applications is large and success rates can be as low as 10%. Applicants are required to pass a high-quality threshold, which is assessed by expert academics in a similar way to the long-established peer review process, to become eligible for receiving Small Research Grant funding. Grants are then randomly allocated to those who pass the threshold.
