Doing Academia Differently: Professional Development Symposium for Doctoral Students and Early-Career Academics – Call for participants and bursary applications
Tuesday the 10th of March 2026, The Open University, Milton Keynes, UK
Are you a Doctoral researcher or an early-career academic? Would you like to spend a day thinking, talking and learning about doing academia differently with established as well as emerging scholars? Would you like to meet others and make friends outside the main conference season? If so, please sign up for our symposium!
The aim of this all-day symposium is to provide inspiration and support for reimagining academic life in the face of contemporary pressures. We’ll challenge the norms of being ‘an ideal academic’ and explore new and creative approaches to different aspects of academia. We have a great line-up of speakers and facilitators running sessions on teaching, researching, writing and publishing differently, academic responsibility, activism, pracademia, and career development and wellbeing. Generously funded by the Society for the Advancement of Management Studies (SAMS) and The Open University Faculty of Business and Law, the symposium is free to attend, and a number of bursaries are available to cover expenses for those in need of financial assistance.
The deadline for applications is January 23rd. To apply, please complete the attendance and bursary form. For more information about the symposium and how to apply to attend, please see the symposium website.
