-
Have you never heard of corpus linguistics and wonder what it might involve?
-
Have you heard of it but not yet used it and want to know more?
-
Do you have large textual datasets in your research (including pedagogical research) and want to learn more about tools that could help you to analyse them?
You do not need to be a linguist to attend or have any prior knowledge of linguistics.
We will have three short talks from people who have used it in their research projects and plenty of time for Q&A afterwards:
10:00-10:15 Bella Reichard (recent Newcastle University PhD graduate in Linguistics)
Using Corpus Linguistics in a study of UK University REF Impact Case Studies
10:15-10-30 Alanoud Alenizi (current PhD student in NUBS)
Using selected Corpus Linguistics tools in a study of philanthropy texts
10:30-10:45 Andrea Whittle (Professor of Management and Organisation studies at NUBS)
Using Corpus Linguistics in a study of CEO meta-talk about leadership in the media
10:45-11:00 Q&A
The event will be opened up to the whole School and feel free to forward it to others who might be interested.
