MIT Opens 2021-2022 Application Cycle for MISTI Global Seed Funds
Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) International Science and Technology Initiatives (MISTI) encourages MIT faculty to collaborate with research institutes and universities around the world.
MISTI’s Global Seed Funds provide mobility support to project teams involving both MIT and their counterparts outside the United States during the initial phase of international collaboration, typically over an 18-month grant period. Collaborations may be in any field of research covered by MIT.
The Funds comprise a general fund together with a number of agreements covering whole countries including France and Spain or specific institutions (eg Université Catholique de Louvain and Katholieke Universiteit Leuven in Belgium). For researchers in the UK, the MIT-Imperial College London Seed Fund promotes early-stage collaboration between MIT and Imperial College London in the areas of climate, health and sustainability.
Funding may only be used to cover travel and meeting costs (including subsistence) to facilitate collaborative international research projects. Most Global Seed Funds provide a maximum of $30,000 per proposal, although this amount may vary between individual funds.
Proposals must be submitted jointly by a MIT Principal Investigator and an international collaborator who holds a research position in an eligible university or research institute outside the US. Applicants are encouraged to involve MIT undergraduate and graduate students in their projects.
The general deadline for the 2021-2022 application cycle is 13 December 2021 (23:59 EST).
Applicants should expect to be informed of the results in April 2022. Funds will be available for use from May 2022 through December 2023.
