The collection box is in NUBS lobby/café area on the far wall. The collection box will be in position from Tuesday 1 March to Friday 11 March.
Period poverty
Periods are a normal part of life but unfortunately ‘Period poverty’ is very much an issue in the UK*.
- 1 in 10 girls can’t afford to buy menstrual products
- 1 in 7 girls have struggled to afford them
*According to a representative survey of 1,000 girls and young women aged 14-21 by Plan International UK.
Period poverty means being unable to access sanitary products and having a poor knowledge of menstruation often due to financial constraints.
Period poverty can lead to**:
- Girls missing a day(s) at school
- Girls not being able to pay attention in class
- Girls being too embarrassed to for help
**’What is period poverty?’ Bodyform
There is also a growing number of women who are homeless or using food banks to survive. Food banks are also being relied upon to provide sanitary products for women and families.
Women may need support because***:
- They may not be able to afford menstrual products
- They may not currently have access to menstrual products
Make a donation of menstrual products
We’re asking staff to bring in donations of sanitary products, anything that you can afford, so that we can supply women who are using West End Food Bank.
- Collection date: Tuesday 1 March – Friday 11 March
- Location: NUBS Lobby/Café
Thank you for your support.
