Wellbeing Wednesday – Library Resources

Welcome to this edition of the Business School Wellbeing Wednesday Update.  We hope you are safe and well.

Each Wednesday (during term time) we will post a staff blog highlighting wellbeing support that is available to Business School students within the School and from across the university to allow staff to pass on the information to students.

Spotlight on…University Library Services

This week we are highlighting the support available via the University Library: University Library

The Library Service will be in the NUBS foyer today between 9.30-11.30am to tell you about their resources and answer any questions!

As well as resources to support your studies, the library also have a Be Well collection of resources to support student wellbeing: https://www.ncl.ac.uk/library/resources-and-study-support/be-wellncl/

  • You can now access over 800,000 different e-book titles via Library Search. E-books are a great way to access the essential reading for your studies and include features that will help you find relevant sections more quickly.
  • You can also recommend books for your studies or research. So let us know if you have a suggestion for a new title in e-book or print, and we will do our best to purchase it. We also have our Interlibrary Loan service for accessing books, articles, conference proceedings etc. that we are unable to purchase or access.
  • Our Subject Guides are created by our Liaison Librarians and are collections of subject-specific resources to help you discover reliable and authoritative information for your studies. So if you are still feeling information overload, then visit our Business Subject Guide, here you will find authoritative business-related resources to support your studies. Remember, if your studies are interdisciplinary, you might have to use multiple guides to ensure you find relevant resources.
  • Our Skills Guides are also an excellent place to visit to boost your Library skills – these Guides give help on how to find, evaluate and manage (reference) your information,  and includes an excellent Guide on support for dissertations and research projects.
  • If you are looking to return library books, you can drop them off at the library facilities or the drop-off point on the ground floor of the Frederick Douglass Centre.
  • The Academic Skills team are here to provide help and support with the full range of study skills, from research planning and time management to revision, and drafting and editing your writing (an overview of what they cover can be found on the Academic Skills Kit website
  •  Your Skills programme brings together a holistic and wide-ranging series of workshops and resources, co-taught and co-created by teams from across the Library and University.   Open to students from all stages and faculties, we encourage students to join us for any sessions that will help them develop the skills they need.
