Celebrating Success – Dr Angela Mazzetti
Congratulations to Dr Angela Mazzetti who will be presenting her paper entitled “My Troubled Career: A Personal Ecology Perspective on the Proximal and Distal Impact of Conflict-Related Career Shocks” to the Academy of Management’s Career’s Conference (CarCon) in Amsterdam.
Career shocks are disruptive events outside of an individual’s control that set in motion a deliberate thought process about one’s career. The paper is based on life-history interviews undertaken as part of a wider ethnographic study in post-conflict Northern Ireland. The paper explores how under civil conflict conditions, certain demographic factors (such as age, gender, ethno-religious identity) influence the proximal impact of career shocks. The paper also explores how these events continue to have impact over the life course due to the complex interplay between individual memory work and sense making that takes place amidst a volatile socio-political climate and victimhood discourses.
