10. NEW: SSH opportunities document 2025 updated https://horizoneuropencpportal.eu/store/ssh-opportunities-document-2025
Net4Society, the network of National Contact Points for Cluster 2, has updated its document on Social Sciences and Humanities (SSH) opportunities in Horizon Europe.
To assist SSH researchers in identifying funding opportunities, the European Commission (EC) has established a search engine within its online Funding & Tender Opportunities Portal. Certain topics with substantial SSH aspects have been “flagged” by the EC as SSH-relevant, and the search engine offers the option to quickly search for the specific priority ‘Social sciences and humanities’. It also allows for keyword and full-text search. This document compiles the “SSH-flagged topics” on the basis of the analysis of SSH-relevant topics carried out by the thematic services and Unit D.3 Health & Societal Transitions of the EC Directorate General for Research and Innovation. The document also includes a few additional topics that, while not flagged, may require the contribution of Social Sciences and Humanities researchers. Researchers are strongly encouraged to screen the Work Programme themselves, in order not to lose out on research opportunities offered on their specific interest.

Fondation Maladies Rares (Foundation for Rare Diseases) is a non-profit umbrella organisation created in 2012 within the framework of France’s second National Rare Diseases Plan. Its two main objectives are to understand rare diseases to facilitate their diagnosis and to accelerate the development of new treatments and to improve the lives of people with rare diseases and their families. In collaboration with the Association du Syndrome de Wolfram (Wolfram Syndrome Association), Fondation Maladies Rares has published a call for proposals to support research into Wolfram syndrome, a rare, genetic endocrine disorder characterised by type 1 diabetes mellitus (DM), diabetes insipidus (DI), sensorineural deafness (D), bilateral optical atrophy (OA) and neurological signs. The call aims to support innovative basic, translational or clinical research programmes into the rare disease. All biomedical disciplines are eligible. The call hopes to support any research aimed at the pathophysiological understanding of the disease, the improvement of diagnosis, the development of better management modalities and/or the development of therapeutic strategies. The Principal Investigator must be a statutory researcher with a permanent position at a public research organisation anywhere in the world. Applications are made by a Principal Investigator (PI) researcher employed by Inria. Each application must involve at least one named international collaborator, who must be a PI working at an eligible university or research centre outside of France. Inria awards €7,000-€11,000/year for each Associated Team for three years. The budget is used to fund exchanges between France and the partner country for researchers, engineers, postdoctoral fellows, PhD students and interns as well as the organisation of joint workshops/working meetings. Deadline 16 October 2025.
15. 2025 Einstein Visiting Fellow and Postdoctoral Grant Programmes:
The Einstein Foundation Berlin is running its second round of applications in 2025 for the following programmes: the Einstein Visiting Fellow programme and the Einstein Postdoctoral Grant programme.
Funding applications to both programmes can only be made through the following institutions in Berlin: Freie Universität Berlin, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Technische Universität Berlin, Universität der Künste Berlin, and Charité-Universitätsmedizin Berlin. Deadline for both programmes is 17 November 2025.
- The Einstein Visiting Fellow programme gives renowned scientists from abroad the opportunity to cooperate with a Berlin host to set up their own research group. In contrast to typical visiting fellows who stay at an institution for one term, the goal of the Einstein Visiting Fellowship is to integrate researchers into Berlin’s science community on a sustainable basis. The programme thus enables the Berlin universities and Charité-Universitätsmedizin to establish long-term collaborations with the Einstein Visiting Fellow’s home institution.
- The Einstein Postdoctoral Grant programme allows eligible Berlin institutions to recruit and retain outstanding researchers by giving Einstein Postdoctoral Researchers time at a crucial career stage to focus on their research project. There are no restrictions in terms of the research discipline or the topic of the project. The initiative runs the following three funding programmes, Starting, Independent and Professorship Track.

If you’re in the process of developing a research proposal please ensure you submit a PIF as soon as possible. The PIF is not just a mechanism to initiate a costing, it enables the research support team to identify and engage on your behalf the varying types of research and business support beneficial to your bid. Please note you don’t need to define all resources required before engaging with the team. To maximise the support available to you, PIF submission is advised at your earliest convenience.
