Human Resources? Looking After Employees in the North East

Reception, report launch, and discussion.

Dr Nick Megoran, Newcastle University.

5.30 – 6.30 pm. Thursday, July 11th, Daysh Building Room G.07, Newcastle University

A light buffet and drinks will be served from 5-5.30pm outside the room

How do we treat university academic staff (and other workers) well? How do we ensure that people working in large organisations committed to the social good are treated in humanity-affirming rather than dehumanising ways?

To answer these questions Dr Nick Megoran, of Newcastle University, will present key findings from his research conducted over the past year in the North East. Nick has looked at HR/personnel practices and interviewed almost 60 secondary school teachers, academics, and church leaders.

The format will be a brief presentation of the report’s ideas, to open up a broader discussion about experience of work and how we can create better workplaces.

This research used Martin Luther King Jr’s ideas about human dignity to examine contemporary practices of human resource management. It has been funded by the William Leech Research Fund and the launch event is hosted by the Newcastle Institute for Social Renewal.
