{"id":11247,"date":"2021-02-08T11:52:49","date_gmt":"2021-02-08T11:52:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/microsites.ncl.ac.uk\/nubsstaffblog\/?p=11247"},"modified":"2021-02-08T11:52:49","modified_gmt":"2021-02-08T11:52:49","slug":"ukri-expression-of-interest-transforming-uk-food-systems-for-health-and-environment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/microsites.ncl.ac.uk\/nubsstaffblog\/2021\/02\/08\/ukri-expression-of-interest-transforming-uk-food-systems-for-health-and-environment\/","title":{"rendered":"UKRI: Expression of interest: transforming UK food systems for health and environment"},"content":{"rendered":"<p id=\"paragraph_9zGBqAP2la-\" dir=\"ltr\"><span id=\"text_1msEz6od7q0\"><strong>Application deadline<\/strong>: 22\/04\/2021 EOI<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"paragraph_lAHBqAv2la-\" dir=\"ltr\"><span id=\"text_EsHIK_6TwIC\"><strong>Maximum grant<\/strong>: \u00a32m<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"paragraph_y3HBqAf2la-\" dir=\"ltr\"><span id=\"text_fIowg9zBX5D\"><strong>Maximum project length<\/strong>: 3 years<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"paragraph_YHHBqA93la-\" dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ukri.org\/opportunity\/transforming-uk-food-systems-for-health-and-environment\/\"><span id=\"text_m09ViwU-Ls4\">Funding is available to support interdisciplinary research into interventions that will transform the UK food system.<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p id=\"paragraph_xbHBqAv3la-\" dir=\"ltr\"><span id=\"text_mJTvqeL7150\">Your project should bring together elements from both of these areas:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li id=\"paragraph_LASa5RiN3j6\"><span id=\"text_7I1YRQt2tB4\">production, processing, manufacturing, food environments<\/span><\/li>\n<li id=\"paragraph_Y3Sa5RSN3j6\"><span id=\"text_IAydHsQX1I-\">healthier diets and consumption.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p id=\"paragraph_n6GBqAP0la-\" dir=\"ltr\"><span id=\"text_A0NJWZ5MhfC\">Your project must be led by a UK- based researcher at a research organisation eligible for BBSRC funding or an eligible public sector research organisation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"paragraph__0GBqA90la-\" dir=\"ltr\"><span id=\"text_e3t99E2w0n_\">Your project can be led by any discipline but must:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li id=\"paragraph_dobvUkW3mb5\"><span id=\"text_s0LZ20NonP1\">integrate both social and natural sciences<\/span><\/li>\n<li id=\"paragraph_qhbvUkG3mb5\"><span id=\"text_kQefBtGRqh7\">collaborate with at least one stakeholder organisation from government, business or civil society<\/span><\/li>\n<li id=\"paragraph_1bbvUk03mb5\"><span id=\"text_-cjLnqw3WE3\">address UK government priorities.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p id=\"paragraph_fyKLQIMWBoB\" dir=\"ltr\"><span id=\"text_sN-06dCd21B\">The <\/span><a id=\"text_fU-06dSd21B\" class=\"CaptionTextEmph\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foodsecurity.ac.uk\/research\/foodsystems-spf\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Transforming UK Food Systems SPF (Global Food Security programme website)<\/a><span id=\"text_Sb-06did21B\"> is an interdisciplinary research programme that will help transform the UK food system within a global context by addressing two over-arching questions:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li id=\"paragraph_vTAsGSUDbTB\"><span id=\"text_EFKvg7LKR8-\">If we put healthy people and a healthy natural environment at the heart of the food system, what would we eat, how would we encourage people to eat it, and where would that food come from? What would we grow and manufacture in the UK and what would we need to import?<\/span><\/li>\n<li id=\"paragraph_6NAsGSEDbTB\"><span id=\"text_uHy2xqfulbA\">In delivering this transformed food system, what interventions would be needed across government, business and civil society?<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p id=\"paragraph_FALLQIsWBoB\" dir=\"ltr\"><span id=\"text_-baUvvvBK39\">This programme will consider the complex interactions between health, environment, economic and behavioural factors across the food system, while taking into account wider needs for different groups in society. The programme will foster a joined-up approach linking nutritionally healthy and accessible diets with sustainable food production and supply.
