Participants will have the opportunity to\u00a0explore factors that make a subject controversial and understand where controversy comes from, as well as consider how\u00a0to plan to mitigate\/pre-empt the controversy. The workshop aims to mobilise the research community to engage the public with controversial areas around their work.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Learning objectives:\u00a0<\/strong>Participants will develop skills and knowledge to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Assess controversy in their own research<\/li>\n<li>engage the public with their research<\/li>\n<li>navigate controversy effectively when engaging the public.<\/li>\n<li>better understand the values of those they are engaging with and how this relates to developing effective engagement practice<\/li>\n<li>understand engagement as a key part of responsible research<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Eligibility:\u00a0<\/strong>This course is open to all academic staff within the HaSS Faculty (regardless of contract type). As the event is being led by an external facilitator, advance registration is required.\u00a0If the event is over-subscribed, a waiting list will be operated.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Registration:<\/strong>\u00a0To register, please do so\u00a0no later than Friday 21 January 2022\u00a0by completing the online form available here:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/forms.ncl.ac.uk\/view.php?id=13299100\">https:\/\/forms.ncl.ac.uk\/view.php?id=13299100<\/a>.
