{"id":13000,"date":"2022-01-26T09:00:46","date_gmt":"2022-01-26T09:00:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/microsites.ncl.ac.uk\/nubsstaffblog\/?p=13000"},"modified":"2022-01-25T16:02:47","modified_gmt":"2022-01-25T16:02:47","slug":"wellbeing-wednesday-wellbeing-workshops-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/microsites.ncl.ac.uk\/nubsstaffblog\/2022\/01\/26\/wellbeing-wednesday-wellbeing-workshops-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Wellbeing Wednesday &#8211; Wellbeing Workshops"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Wellbeing Wednesday<\/h3>\n<p>Welcome to this edition of the Business School Wellbeing Wednesday Update.\u00a0 We hope you are safe and well.<\/p>\n<p>Each Wednesday (during term time) we will post a staff blog highlighting wellbeing support that is available to Business School students within the School and from across the university to allow staff to pass on the information to students.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Wellbeing Support for Business School Students<\/h3>\n<p>The Business School has dedicated health and wellbeing support for our students:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Lisa Kirton- Counsellor\/ Therapist<\/li>\n<li>Emer McConnell- Mental Health Adviser<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>They are available to provide support for students all year round.\u00a0 They can be contacted via\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:NUBS.Wellbeing@newcastle.ac.uk\">NUBS.Wellbeing@newcastle.ac.uk<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Each Wednesday (during term time) we will send you an email highlighting wellbeing support that is available to Business School students within the School and from across the university. As well as providing a reminder about the support available each week, we will also shine a spotlight on a different university support service.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Get in touch:<\/strong>\u00a0 If you want an informal chat with our wellbeing team, please email\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:NUBS.Wellbeing@newcastle.ac.uk\">NUBS.Wellbeing@newcastle.ac.uk<\/a>\u00a0and they will be able to sign post you to what support is available.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Other Sources of Support:\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0Our Student and Staff Wellbeing Service work with local and national organisations to support you and help you maximise your academic potential and gain the most from your time here at Newcastle.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Student Support Plans<\/strong>: If you disclose a long-term mental health condition, supported by recent medical evidence, you may be able to access reasonable adjustments and support to help you engage in your studies. Students who have an on-going mental health condition or disability can access a Student Support Plan:\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:specialistlearning@ncl.ac.uk\">specialistlearning@ncl.ac.uk<\/a>\u00a0or\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:disabilityadvisor@ncl.ac.uk\">disabilityadvisor@ncl.ac.uk<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mental Health Advisor:<\/strong>\u00a0If you feel you may require support with a mental health issue, you can request an individual assessment appointment:\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:mentalhealthadvisor@ncl.ac.uk\">mentalhealthadvisor@ncl.ac.uk<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Drop-In Support:<\/strong>\u00a0Drop-in slots are one off appointments if you are wanting to discuss a particular issue.\u00a0 These are for situations where you do not need a regular appointment but may want to speak to someone about an issue impacting upon your health and wellbeing please contact:\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:sws.therapyappointments@ncl.ac.uk\">sws.therapyappointments@ncl.ac.uk<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This service allows you to meet with our Therapist, Lisa to discuss any issue that may be affecting you but where you don\u2019t feel you need a more regular appointment and some advice may help. Lisa can provide counselling for students who may be struggling with life concerns which cause unmanageable emotional or psychological distress. She can also help students to get the most from their university experience and maximise their academic success by providing time focussed counselling. This service is available to all students, to those with and without medical evidence.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Wellbeing Workshops<\/strong>: The School is hosting Workshops on a range of topics from Managing Stress and Anxiety to How to Sleep:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncl.ac.uk\/wellbeing\/newseventsandprojects\/workshops\/\">Wellbeing Workshops \u2013 Student and Staff Wellbeing \u2013 Newcastle University (ncl.ac.uk)<\/a>\u00a0For more information about wellbeing support and services at Newcastle University visit:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncl.ac.uk\/wellbeing\/\">https:\/\/www.ncl.ac.uk\/wellbeing\/\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Urgent Wellbeing Support:<\/strong>\u00a0For urgent concerns during office hours (09:00 \u2013 17:00 Monday-Friday) please use the Wellbeing Consultancy service:\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:wellbeingconsultancy@ncl.ac.uk\">wellbeingconsultancy@ncl.ac.uk<\/a>. For out of hours help, please call University Security: 0191 208 6817 (24 hours a day, seven days a week)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Report + Support:<\/strong>\u00a0We are committed to providing a positive experience for our students and colleagues and believe that abusive behaviours are never acceptable. Our online Report and Support tool enables anyone to report concerns anonymously, make a formal complaint and\/ or receive support. You can read more at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/reportandsupport.ncl.ac.uk\/\">https:\/\/reportandsupport.ncl.ac.uk\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>As Wellbeing encompasses both physical and mental wellbeing we also wanted to highlight some of the measures in place to protect your physical health when you are on campus in the Business School. These help us to keep the campus tidy and make it easier for facilities staff to clean:<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Please do not eat in lecture theatres<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Please ensure that you are recycling waste correctly and using the correct bins, especially not putting food waste into the bins in toilets<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Please ensure that you wear a face covering when moving around the Business School to protect yourself and others<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Spotlight on\u2026Wellbeing Workshops<\/h3>\n<p>This week we are highlighting some of the upcoming Wellbeing Workshops.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Student Health and Wellbeing Service provide a wide range of workshops for students, each one running at different points in the year. Please check the centralised workshop booking system, available <a href=\"https:\/\/workshops.ncl.ac.uk\/public\/wellbeing\/\">here<\/a>, for workshops that are currently running and their availability.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Upcoming Wellbeing Workshops<\/h3>\n<p>Please find below a list of new wellbeing workshops which will be taking place over Zoom.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/workshops.ncl.ac.uk\/public\/wellbeing\/\"><strong>Introduction to Mindfulness on Thursday 27<sup>th<\/sup> January 2022 at 12:00 (1 hr)<\/strong><\/a><strong> \u2013 <\/strong>This workshop aims to provide an introduction to mindfulness and how this approach can enhance your wellbeing. The benefits of mindfulness are explored in a way that can help you identify and incorporate this approach into your life to make a meaningful difference.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/workshops.ncl.ac.uk\/public\/wellbeing\/\"><strong>Food and Mood on Thursday 27<sup>th<\/sup> January 2022 at 16:00 (1 hr)<\/strong><\/a><strong> \u2013<\/strong> Raising awareness of how food can affect our feelings and how the way we feel about ourselves can effort our relationship with food.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/workshops.ncl.ac.uk\/public\/wellbeing\/\"><strong>Understanding how to attend to stress and anxiety \u2013 a compassionate approach on Monday 14<sup>th<\/sup> February 2022 at 14:30 (1.5 hrs<\/strong>)<\/a> \u2013 The first part of this workshop has been designed to provide you with an understanding of what anxiety and stress are and how they naturally impact your ability to function; work and cope. We will then connect this knowledge with tools and techniques to help you decrease the debilitating symptoms of stress and anxiety and help increase your capacity to manage the demands of daily life.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/workshops.ncl.ac.uk\/public\/wellbeing\/\"><strong>Making Your Voice Heard in Seminars on Wednesday 16<sup>th<\/sup> February 2022 at 10:00 (1 hr)<\/strong><\/a> \u2013 Finding it difficult to participate in seminars and webinars? Worried about \u2018saying the wrong thing\u2019 or \u2018missing your chance\u2019 to speak? Feel like your contributions are being undervalued or overlooked? Join this session to discuss different approaches for making seminars a more satisfying and inviting experience and ensuring your voice is heard.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/workshops.ncl.ac.uk\/public\/wellbeing\/\"><strong>Self- Compassion on Monday 21<sup>st<\/sup> February 2022 at 14:30 (1.5 hrs)<\/strong><\/a> \u2013 How often are we kind and caring towards others and yet do not give the same compassion to ourselves? This workshop has been designed to help you learn and practice self-compassion.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/workshops.ncl.ac.uk\/public\/wellbeing\/\"><strong>Managing Interpersonal Conflict in Group Work on Wednesday 23<sup>rd<\/sup> February 2022 at 10:00 (1 hr)<\/strong><\/a> \u2013 Concerned about working with others in a group? Unsure about the \u2018fairest\u2019 way to divide the work? Feeling frustrated that others in the group aren\u2019t doing their fair share? Join this session to discuss some of the most common causes of interpersonal conflict in university group-work and some strategies for how to manage these situations if they arise.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t worry if you are unable to attend a session, often the slides are shared after the workshop.
