{"id":14876,"date":"2022-12-07T13:31:16","date_gmt":"2022-12-07T13:31:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/microsites.ncl.ac.uk\/nubsstaffblog\/?p=14876"},"modified":"2022-12-07T13:31:16","modified_gmt":"2022-12-07T13:31:16","slug":"training-and-development-opportunity-external-examiner-professional-development-course","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/microsites.ncl.ac.uk\/nubsstaffblog\/2022\/12\/07\/training-and-development-opportunity-external-examiner-professional-development-course\/","title":{"rendered":"Training and Development Opportunity: External Examiner Professional Development Course"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Newcastle University is supporting any colleague involved or interested in <b>External Examining <\/b>to undertake the <b>Advance HE Professional Development Course<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>The course will lead to recognition from <strong>Advance HE<\/strong> and will consider the role of the External Examiner in the <b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.qaa.ac.uk\/quality-code\">UK Quality Code for Higher Education.<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n<p>The training will run over two months and is aimed at academic and professional service colleagues who have or are hoping to have a role that includes External Examining either in this institution or in other HEIs in England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland or Internationally.<\/p>\n<p>It will support you to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>understand the role of the external examiner as articulated in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.qaa.ac.uk\/quality-code\">UK Quality Code for Higher Education<\/a>,\u00a0and be confident to undertake it;<\/li>\n<li>develop a deeper understanding of the nature of academic standards and professional judgement, and explore the implications for external examining;<\/li>\n<li>use evidence-informed approaches to contribute to impartial, transparent judgements on academic standards and the enhancement of student learning.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Participation in the course can be used as evidence towards gaining (Senior or Principal) Fellowship of the HEA.<\/p>\n<p>Not only is it a <b>professional development course <\/b>but on completion it can be used in <b>evidence for promotion<\/b>, and you\u2019ll be listed on the Advance HE\u2019s <b>External Examiners Directory <\/b><b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.advance-he.ac.uk\/sites\/default\/files\/2021-04\/External%20Examiners%20Directory%20-16042021.xlsx\">website<\/a><\/b> to make it easier for HEIs to find suitable examiners.<\/p>\n<h3>When is it?<\/h3>\n<p>The course begins on Wednesday 25th January 2023.
