It opens funding opportunities worth over \u20ac1.4 billion for strategic technologies and scaling up companies.<\/p>\n<p>The EIC work programme 2025 details the funding in four main schemes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/eic.ec.europa.eu\/eic-funding-opportunities\/eic-pathfinder_en\">EIC Pathfinder<\/a>\u00a0(\u20ac262 million) for multi-disciplinary research teams to undertake visionary research with the potential to lead to technology breakthroughs (grants up to \u20ac4 million).<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/eic.ec.europa.eu\/eic-funding-opportunities\/eic-transition_en\">EIC Transition<\/a>\u00a0(\u20ac98 million) to turn research results into innovation opportunities, following up on results generated by EIC Pathfinder projects, European Research Council Proof of Concept projects and open to project results from Horizon collaborative projects from Pillar 2\/ societal challenges (grants up to \u20ac2.5 million).<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/eic.ec.europa.eu\/eic-funding-opportunities\/eic-accelerator_en\">EIC Accelerator<\/a>\u00a0(\u20ac634 million) for start-ups and SMEs to develop and scale up innovations with the potential to create new markets or disrupt existing ones (grants below \u20ac2.5 million, investments from \u20ac0.5 to \u20ac10 million).<\/li>\n<li>The EIC\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/eic.ec.europa.eu\/eic-funding-opportunities\/step-scale_en\">Strategic Technologies for Europe Platform<\/a>\u00a0(STEP) Scale Up (\u20ac300 million), which will provide additional equity funding to promising companies (SMEs, start-ups, spin-offs and small mid-caps) driving innovation in critical areas to help them secure larger private co-investment for further scaling their businesses (investments from \u20ac10 to \u20ac30 million).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In each case, the direct financial support to innovators is complemented with access to a wide range of Business Acceleration Services providing access to leading expertise, corporates, investors and ecosystem actors.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li><strong> REMINDER:<\/strong><strong> NU Horizon Europe Travel Fund: <\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The purpose of the Horizon Europe travel fund is to support the development of proposals to Horizon Europe funding opportunities. Summary of new features include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The European Commission is planning to launch the first European Innovation Council (EIC) pre-accelerator calls in 2025 for start-ups in Widening countries, according to\u00a0a draft work programme detailing Horizon Europe calls next year in the Widening programme.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The Commission will launch a pilot call for action plans \u201cfor connected regional innovation valleys\u201d in Widening countries.<\/li>\n<li>The Hop-on Facility will allow new participants from Widening countries to join ongoing research and innovation actions under Pillar II of Horizon Europe and EIC pathfinder projects that do not have a partner from a Widening country.<\/li>\n<li>The Policy Platform for enlargement countries that are seeking to join the EU will continue to provide policy support to the Western Balkan countries and extend its geographical scope to other enlargement countries.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>\u00a0<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ol start=\"5\">\n<li><strong> Holberg Prize 2026 Open for Applications <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/holbergprize.org\/prizes-and-laureates\/holbergprize\/\">https:\/\/holbergprize.org\/prizes-and-laureates\/holbergprize\/<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The Holberg Prize is awarded annually to a scholar who has made outstanding contributions to research in the arts and humanities, social science, law or theology<strong><em>.\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>Nominations are now being accepted for the 2026 edition of the competition. The successful recipient must have had a decisive influence on international research in the field. The aim of the call is to improve understanding of CASK-Related Disorder, the pathophysiology of the disorders, improve diagnosis,develop better treatment processes and to develop new therapeutic strategies. To address this, the call will support innovative and transdisciplinary research at any stage of development (basic, translational, clinical) on CASK-related disorders. Candidates must demonstrate outstanding track records in machine learning (ML) and related fields (computer vision, natural language processing, robotics etc).\u00a0<strong>Deadline: 31 Marc 2025<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol start=\"8\">\n<li><strong>8. <\/strong><strong>UK-German Funding Initiative in the Humanities Opens for Round Seven <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ukri.org\/opportunity\/collaborate-with-german-partners-on-arts-and-humanities-research-round-seven\/\">https:\/\/www.ukri.org\/opportunity\/collaborate-with-german-partners-on-arts-and-humanities-research-round-seven\/<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The UK Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) and the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) together run the <em>UK-German Funding Initiative in the Humanities <\/em>to bring together arts and humanities (including law and linguistics) researchers in the UK and Germany to conduct outstanding joint UK-German research projects. Projects must last between 24 and 36 months starting between January and mid-February 2026. Awards will not exceed, on the UK side, \u00a3420,000 (at 100% FEC, of which the AHRC will fund 80%) per project, meaning \u00a3336,000 is available per project on the UK side. DFG does not specify a maximum limit to the amount of funding that can be requested for the German component. <strong>Deadline 16\u00a0February 2025.<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol start=\"9\">\n<li><strong>9. AQUARIUS to launch\u00a0two Transnational Access Calls <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/aquarius-ri.eu\/access\/\">https:\/\/aquarius-ri.eu\/access\/<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>AQUARIUS will\u00a0launch two transnational access funding calls\u00a0to support research and innovation projects that integrate multiple\u00a0Research Infrastructures\u00a0(RI) and contribute to the objectives of the <a href=\"https:\/\/research-and-innovation.ec.europa.eu\/funding\/funding-opportunities\/funding-programmes-and-open-calls\/horizon-europe\/eu-missions-horizon-europe\/restore-our-ocean-and-waters_en\">EU Mission: Restore our Ocean and Waters.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Call 1, Regional Lighthouse Access Call:\u00a0Open 11 November 2024 \u2013 <strong>20 January 2025<\/strong><br \/>\nCall 2, Super-integrated Lighthouse Call: Open 2 September 2025 \u2013 <strong>28 October 2025<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>From November 11, 2024, a dedicated Call Platform will be launched for the development and submission of applications. To begin preparing a proposal, potential applicants are advised to familiarise themselves with the available infrastructures in the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/aquarius-ri.eu\/research-infrastructures-catalogue\/\">Research Infrastructure Catalogue<\/a>.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"10\">\n<li><strong> Horizon Europe rare disease partnership calls expected in December\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ejprarediseases.org\/erdera\/\">https:\/\/www.ejprarediseases.org\/erdera\/<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>A new Horizon Europe rare disease partnership,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/erdera.org\/\">European Rare Diseases Research Alliance<\/a>, (of which Newcastle is a participant)\u00a0will launch its first calls in December, as it embarks on a seven-year mission to consolidate research and improve treatment.
