The report offers a number of general observations on the successes and challenges that have emerged in the shift from Horizon 2020 (H2020) to Horizon Europe (HE), along with specific observations on the constituent Pillars and EU Missions, plus recommendations for the remainder of Horizon Europe and for the 10th Research Framework Programme (FP10).<\/p>\n

2. NEW:\u00a0<\/b>UK-India Collaboration: Grants Available for Industrial Net Zero Research Projects\u00a0<\/span><\/b>https:\/\/apply-for-innovation-funding.service.gov.uk\/competition\/2080\/overview\/437c2e0e-6be8-4fee-ad4d-e5968dbf8577<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

The initiative, jointly run by Innovate UK and India’s Department of Science and Technology, aims to accelerate innovations in areas like advanced materials, renewable energy, and decarbonising manufacturing. Grants ranging from \u00a3100,000 to \u00a3300,000 are available for UK participants, with a total allocation of \u00a32 million for this funding round.\u00a0Deadline 12 February 2025 (11:00 GMT)<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

Colleagues are invited to attend a series of research funding proposal writing sessions.\u00a0 These sessions are designed to give you quiet time and space to work on your research funding proposal.\u00a0 The time will be largely for you to write quietly. A Research Funding Development Team colleague will be available.<\/p>\n

To attend, you need to have an idea for a research project, programme or fellowship and be ready to start writing to convert this into a funding proposal (or have already started writing).\u00a0 You ideally need to have identified the funding competition that you are writing for.<\/p>\n

The sessions will be two-hour writing sessions.\u00a0 You are not required to attend every session, although you are welcome to.<\/p>\n

10. NEW:\u00a0<\/b>Horizon Europe Teaming call opened\u00a0https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/info\/funding-tenders\/opportunities\/portal\/screen\/opportunities\/topic-details\/HORIZON-WIDERA-2025-ACCESS-01-01-two-stage<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n

Teaming funds\u00a0establish new centres of excellence\u00a0in Widening countries or\u00a0modernise existing ones\u00a0with the help of leading institutions from elsewhere in the EU or associated countries.\u00a0The last Teaming call of Horizon Europe\u00a0is scheduled to open on 3 December. Teaming is a two-stage call, with the\u00a0deadline of first stage applications on 10 April 2025<\/b>. Successful applicants in the first stage are invited to submit complete applications to the\u00a0second stage by 20 January 2026<\/b>.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0UK National Contact Point (NCP)<\/b><\/a>\u00a0provides information and advice on participating in this area of Horizon Europe.<\/p>\n

13.\u00a0COST Actions Networking Grants 2025:\u00a0<\/b>https:\/\/www.cost.eu\/funding\/open-call-a-simple-one-step-application-process\/<\/a><\/p>\n

COST (European Cooperation in Science and Technology) is an intergovernmental framework for European Cooperation in the field of scientific and technical research, including social science and humanities. COST does not fund research itself, but funds the expenses of interdisciplinary research networks called COST Actions (networks that engage a team of proposers from at least 7 COST member countries with at least half from inclusiveness target countries). These support a range of networking tools, such as workshops, conferences, training schools, short-term scientific missions (STSMs), communication activities, and virtual networking tools. COST Actions enable researchers from academia, SMEs, public institutions and other relevant organisations to investigate a topic of their choice for four years. No budget forecast is requested when submitting a proposal. An estimated \u20ac125,000 is made available for a COST Action in its first year and an average of \u20ac150,000 per year for the other three years. Deadline is\u00a021 October 2025<\/b>.<\/p>\n

14.\u00a0British Academy Horizon Europe Pump Priming Funding:<\/b>\u00a0https:\/\/www.thebritishacademy.ac.uk\/funding\/Horizon-Europe-Pump-Priming-Collaboration-between-UK-and-EU-Partners\/<\/a><\/p>\n

Principal Investigators (PIs) at universities and research institutions can apply for a grant of up to \u00a310,000 to help them in their preparations for submitting a Horizon Europe proposal for\u00a0Pillar 2 of Horizon Europe \u2013 Global Challenges and\u00a0European Industrial Competitiveness<\/b>.\u00a0The ambition is to support the effective uptake of the opportunities provided by the UK’s association to Horizon Europe. The purpose is not to implement the proposed projects that will be submitted to Horizon Europe, but to give the UK-based partners the resources needed to collaborate with EU organisations and stakeholders to further develop the idea and the market opportunities. The expectation is that the funding will be utilised in a variety of ways but could include feasibility studies, application advice and training, partnership building, and dedicated resource to take forward an application. Proposals are welcome in all disciplines, including engineering, natural sciences, medical and health sciences, humanities, and social sciences. The British Academy is holding a series of webinars providing further information about the opportunity and details of how to apply. Applicants can\u00a0register to attend<\/a>\u00a0the webinars online, which will be held on the following dates: 19 November 2024, 14:00-15:00 [past, but see\u00a0\"\u200bpptx<\/span>\u00a0slides<\/span><\/a>]; 8 January 2025, 14:00-15:00; 5 February 2025, 14:00-15:00. 15.\u00a0UUKi UK \u2013 France Science, Innovation, and Technology mobility scheme:<\/b>\u00a0https:\/\/www.universitiesuk.ac.uk\/topics\/international\/uk-france-science-innovation-and-0<\/a><\/p>\n

Following the bilateral research dialogue between France and UK which took place in London on 29 February 2024, the UK government has committed \u00a3400k funding to boost and foster UK-France research collaboration. We are delighted to announce that following the launch of our pump-priming scheme last month, we have now launched the call for the second strand, a mobility programme.\u00a0A total funding pot of \u00a3300k is available for mobility activities of UK researchers to institutions in France, with the aim of developing collaborative activity between the UK and France which supports both institutional and UK-wide research and innovation priorities and prepares a submission to a Horizon Europe or other international collaborative funding bid. Mobilities are expected to take place between April 2025 and January 2026. Deadline\u00a012 January 2025<\/b>.
