It seeks to understand how industrial and maritime legacies are remembered, governed, interpreted, and reimagined within changing urban, social, and geopolitical landscapes.<\/p>\n<p>Participants will engage with case studies, theoretical frameworks, and practice-based insights, fostering dialogue among academics, heritage professionals, city stakeholders, and the wider public.<\/p>\n<p>The event will focus on four thematic streams:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Memory, Archaeology and Maritime Heritage<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Beiyang Fleet Cemetery and Chinese naval history in the UK context<\/li>\n<li>Industrial and maritime archaeology in post-industrial cities<\/li>\n<li>Memorialisation and collective memory in transnational settings<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Cross-Cultural Dialogue and Language Exchange<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Historical narratives in UK\u2013China engagement<\/li>\n<li>Language, identity, and interpretation in heritage contexts<\/li>\n<li>Intercultural remembrance and transnational educational exchange<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Heritage and Cultural Management<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Governance of cemeteries, museums, and heritage sites<\/li>\n<li>Managing difficult or contested heritage<\/li>\n<li>Stakeholder collaboration in cross-national projects<\/li>\n<li>Digital transformation in heritage management: virtual archives, digital storytelling, and preservation technologies<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Tourism and Urban Futures<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Heritage tourism and city branding<\/li>\n<li>Sustainable visitor experiences<\/li>\n<li>Industrial sites as future-oriented spaces of cultural regeneration<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We welcome contributions that explore other relevant aspects of the UK-China Heritage and its broader significance, including but not limited to historical, sociological, artistic, digital, management, marketing or community-based perspectives.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Who Should Attend?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This symposium welcomes contributions and participation from a wide range of individuals and institutions, including but not limited to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Academics and postgraduate researchers from fields such as heritage studies, archaeology, history, management, cultural studies, language and translation, tourism, and other relevant disciplines that can offer insights into memory, heritage, and urban transformation<\/li>\n<li>Heritage practitioners, museum professionals, and policy stakeholders involved in cultural governance, preservation, and public engagement<\/li>\n<li>City planners, cultural organisations, and representatives from the public and voluntary sectors, particularly those interested in cross-cultural dialogue, local history, or heritage-based urban regeneration<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We encourage interdisciplinary engagement and welcome diverse perspectives on the past, present, and future of industrial and maritime heritage in a global context.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Submission Guidelines<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Participants who wish to give a presentation at the symposium are invited to submit an abstract of 150\u2013250 words.<\/li>\n<li>Abstracts should clearly address one or more of the conference themes and articulate their relevance to the symposium\u2019s focus on heritage, memory, cross-cultural dialogue, and urban transformation in the context of the Beiyang Fleet Sailors Cemetery.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Registration<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The symposium is free to attend, and registration is open to both presenters and non-presenters.
