1. NEW:\u00a0<\/b>ERC Scientific Council readjusts rules for resubmission:\u00a0<\/b>https:\/\/www.ukro.ac.uk\/news\/erc-scientific-council-readjusts-rules-for-reapplication\/<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n

The ERC Scientific Council has responded to concerns from the research community about recently announced resubmission rule changes for the 2027 ERC Work Programme by readjusting those measures. In a\u00a0letter<\/a>\u00a0from ERC President Maria\u202fLeptin, the Council confirms that eligibility rules for the 2027 Starting, Consolidator and Advanced Grants will remain unchanged from previous years, excluding applicants who received a C score at step\u202f1 in the 2025 or 2026 calls or a B score at step\u202f1 in the 2026 call. Similar restrictions apply to the 2027 ERC Plus call, with the additional exclusion of applicants not retained at step\u202f1 of the 2026 ERC Plus call, while eligibility for the 2027 Synergy Grants will exclude applicants with C scores at step\u202f1 in the 2025 or 2026 SyG or other ERC calls, or B scores at step\u202f1 in the 2026 calls.\u00a0<\/span>Note that eligibility of applicants for the 2028 calls will be determined only in the 2028 Work Programme.<\/p>\n

2. NEW:\u00a0<\/span><\/b>MSCA Doctoral Networks \u2013 International PhD Student Tuition Fees:\u00a0<\/b>https:\/\/www.ukro.ac.uk\/news\/msca-doctoral-networks-international-phd-student-tuition-fees\/<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n

The European Commission has recently announced the\u00a0results<\/a>\u00a0of the 2025 Marie Sk\u0142odowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Doctoral Networks (DN) call where\u00a0\u20ac617,18 million\u00a0will be dedicated to fund\u00a0141 doctoral programmes\u00a0that will train\u00a02115 doctoral candidates\u00a0in and outside academia. UKRO wish to remind UK beneficiaries that participation in the MSCA programme requires adherence to its rules and principles, including the proper implementation of the Grant Agreement obligations. Under Marie Sk\u0142odowska-Curie Actions, recruitment must follow an open, transparent, merit-based, impartial and equitable process as laid down in\u00a0Annex 5 of the Model Grant Agreement<\/a>\u00a0and the\u00a0European Charter for Researchers<\/a>. UKRO recognises that tuition fees are a recurring issue for MSCA Doctoral Networks in the UK, particularly due to high international rates. Institutions can decide what fees to charge MSCA DN doctoral candidates, with approaches including full fee waivers, a reduced rate (neither home nor international), or charging the home rate. As MSCA doctoral candidates are employed as staff, any reduced or waived fees normally offered to staff must also apply to MSCA DN researchers.<\/p>\n

3. NEW:\u00a0<\/b>EC Webinar: Mandatory Use of 2-Factor Authentication (2FA): Be Prepared!, Online, 13 May 2026, 09:00-10:30:\u00a0<\/b>https:\/\/www.ukro.ac.uk\/events\/ec-webinar-mandatory-use-of-2-factor-authentication-2fa-be-prepared\/<\/a><\/p>\n

Over the course of this year, securing access to EU Login accounts on the Funding & Tenders Portal via two-factor authentication will become\u00a0mandatory. This implementation will be progressive and affected users will be notified individually in due time. The Commission will hold its next\u00a0webinar<\/a>\u00a0dedicated to the mandatory roll-out of two-factor authentication(2FA) in the context of the Funding & Tenders Portal on Wednesday 13 May. In preparation for the event, the Commission has prepared a useful\u00a0infographic<\/a>, which serves as a 2FA troubleshooting guide. The webinar will be web-streamed live on YouTube on the\u00a0event page<\/a>. There is no need to register to participate.<\/p>\n

The British Academy will be hosting its next webinar on\u00a0Friday 19 June 2026,\u00a010:30-12:00 UK time for UK based researchers in the humanities and social sciences interested in applying for European Research Council (ERC) grants.
