The consultation will inform both the development of a broader partnership portfolio and preparations for new legislative frameworks covering Treaty-based partnerships. The la Caixa Foundation has opened applications for its 2026 Postdoctoral Junior Leader Fellowships Programme, supporting talented early-career researchers to undertake innovative STEM research, including Bio and Health Sciences, in Spain and Portugal. Open to researchers worldwide with a PhD awarded between two and seven years ago, the scheme offers 40 fellowships worth up to \u20ac320,100 each, alongside training, career development and international mobility opportunities. 6. NEW:\u00a0<\/b>Nordic Institutes for Advanced Studies Fellowship on Health and Sustainability Open for Applications:\u00a0<\/b>https:\/\/aias.au.dk\/nnf-ias-fellowships<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n

The programme will support five early- to mid-career researchers (2\u201310 years post-PhD) from any discipline to undertake 23-month interdisciplinary research projects at partner Institutes for Advanced Studies in Denmark, Finland, Norway or Sweden. Funding covers salary, travel and research costs, alongside career development and training opportunities. Applications are open to researchers of any nationality. The British Council has opened applications for its Springboard Programme, which supports early career researchers in the UK to develop collaborations with partners in France, Germany or Spain. Open to all disciplines, the programme provides grants of up to \u00a310,000 to strengthen international networks, support knowledge exchange activities and lay the foundations for future collaborative funding bids, including Horizon Europe opportunities. 8. INHA\/MIAM History of Art Research Grant to Return for 2026:<\/b>\u00a0https:\/\/www.inha.fr\/recherche\/appels\/appel-candidature\/bourse-de-recherche-miam-inha\/<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n

France’s Institut National de l’Histoire de l’Art (INHA – National Institute of Art History) was founded in 2001 and is a public scientific, cultural and professional establishment under the authority of the French ministries of Education and of Culture. Its objective is to provide a meeting point for researchers and curators from museums and libraries, in conjunction with other French and international art history institutions. The Institut National d’Histoire de l’Art (INHA) and the Mus\u00e9e International des Arts Modestes (MIAM) have launched a \u20ac20,000 research grant focused on the figurine in art history, particularly from the late 20th and early 21st centuries. The 12-month award is open to doctoral, postdoctoral and established researchers of any nationality, and includes workspace at INHA. Deadline:\u00a030 September 2026.<\/b><\/p>\n

9. Launch of Innovative Health Initiative (IHI) Call 13:\u00a0<\/b>https:\/\/www.ihi.europa.eu\/ihi-call-13<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n

The Innovative Health Initiative (IHI) has launched Call 13, inviting innovative solutions across three topics: boosting health innovation through a network; using AI to reduce animal use in drug safety studies; and decoding diseases related to ageing and the immune system. A total budget of \u20ac84,824,750 is available for projects tackling these issues within IHI public-private partnerships; \u20ac53.2 million from Horizon Europe, \u20ac27,196,000 from IHI’s industry members and \u20ac4,428,750 from IHI contributing partners. Call 13 is a two-stage call. Short proposal submission deadline:\u00a008 October 2026<\/b>.<\/p>\n

Innovate UK and Innosuisse will jointly invest up to \u00a33m and CHF 3m in collaborative innovation projects. Open to UK and Swiss partners, the call aims to strengthen cross-border collaboration in emerging technologies, with a focus on semiconductors, life sciences and engineering biology. The Fondazione Ing. Aldo Gini, at the University of Padova, Italy, has released a call for grant applications to support short-term PG study in Padova.\u00a0 The grants are specifically for students who already hold a Masters qualification, so could be suitable for many of our current PGR students in SAgE who might relish the opportunity to work in Italy for a short time next academic year – for example, to continue with their PhD research under the supervision of an academic at Padova, or perhaps to pause their studies here at Newcastle to undertake a period of adjacent study at Padova.\u00a0Only STEM disciplines are included in the call – specifically Agriculture, Engineering, and\u00a0 Mathematical, Physical and Natural Sciences.\u00a0For more details and how to apply,\u00a0download this document<\/span><\/a>.\u00a0Deadline:15 September 2026<\/b>.<\/p>\n

The European Commission has launched the 2026 Horizon Europe Award for Gender Equality Champions, recognising organisations with strong outcomes from implementing Gender Equality Plans (GEPs). Open to universities and research organisations across eligible countries, the award promotes inclusive policies and institutional change. Applicants may apply to one of three categories\u2014Sustainable, Newcomer, or Inclusive Champions\u2014with four prizes of \u20ac100,000 available. Deadline:\u00a029 September 2026.<\/b><\/p>\n

The\u00a0MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships 2026 call will open in April. Postdoctoral Fellowships (PF) target researchers holding a PhD with up to eight years of research experience who wish to carry out their research activities abroad, acquire new skills and develop their careers. 14. Wiko Early Career Fellowships Open for Researchers Across Disciplines Worldwide:\u00a0<\/span><\/b>https:\/\/www.wiko-berlin.de\/en\/becoming-a-fellow\/wiko-early-career-calls<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n

The Institute for Advanced Study Berlin (Wiko) is inviting applications for its Early Career Fellowship Programme, which offers residential fellowships in Berlin for outstanding postdoctoral researchers aiming to advance a defined research project. The programme includes two streams: humanities and social sciences, and life and natural sciences. Applicants must hold a PhD and demonstrate strong publication records, such as a monograph for humanities scholars or multiple high-impact articles for science and social science candidates. Fellowships last 10 months for humanities and social sciences, and three to five months for life and natural sciences, with financial support provided through teaching replacement costs of up to \u20ac60,000. The European Research Council has introduced the ERC+ Grant 2026 to provide additional support to leading researchers building on ERC-funded projects. The scheme aims to strengthen research impact and capacity. Further details on eligibility and implementation are expected. The submission deadline is on\u00a02 September 2026.<\/b><\/p>\n

16. Henry Jacques Le M\u00eame Architecture Writing Prize 2026<\/b>:\u00a0https:\/\/sfa.wiin.io\/fr\/<\/a>
\nThe Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 fran\u00e7aise des architectes (SFA) invites submissions for the 2026 Henry Jacques Le M\u00eame Prize, an architecture writing competition exploring the relationship between writing and the built environment. Applicants must submit a text (max. 20,000 characters, in French) offering a detailed depiction of a place centred on a constructed building; entries may be in any literary genre and submitted individually or in teams of up to three. The competition is open to all, regardless of nationality. Prizes are \u20ac2,500 for first place, \u20ac1,000 for second, and \u20ac500 for third. 17. SPRIND Launches FUNKE Quantum Challenges for Sensing Data Integration:\u00a0<\/span><\/b>https:\/\/www.sprind.org\/en\/actions\/challenges<\/span><\/a><\/b><\/p>\n

Bundesagentur fur Sprunginnovationen (SPRIND, German Federal Agency for Disruptive Innovation) has opened applications for two FUNKE challenges focused on quantum sensing and data use. The\u00a0<\/span>FUNKE Quantum-Driven Intelligence Challenge<\/span><\/b><\/a>\u00a0focuses on connecting high-precision quantum sensor data with existing data sources, models and sensor systems to derive decision-relevant information that is not otherwise accessible. Supported projects are expected to develop practical applications or scenarios where quantum sensing integration materially improves existing systems, models or analytical methods. Stage 1 will support 15 teams for four months at \u20ac200,000 per project. Stage 2 will support 10 teams for two months at \u20ac100,000 per project. The\u00a0<\/span>FUNKE Quantumsense Exploration Challenge<\/span><\/b><\/a>\u00a0supports teams developing methods to identify and leverage new quantum sensors or quantum systems for sensing applications more rapidly, systematically and at greater scale. Possible approaches include AI-supported exploration based on physical simulations and systematic, AI-assisted analysis of cross-disciplinary scientific literature. This second challenge will support 10 teams in Stage 1 for five months at \u20ac450,000 per project, followed by Stage 2 support for seven teams for two months at \u20ac150,000 per project.\u00a0<\/span>Deadline:\u00a06 September 2026<\/b><\/p>\n
