1. NEW:<\/b>\u00a0Japan and EU sign off Horizon Europe association:\u00a0<\/b>https:\/\/sciencebusiness.net\/news\/horizon-europe\/japan-and-eu-sign-horizon-europe-association<\/a><\/p>\n

Japan has officially signed off a deal that associates the country to Horizon Europe, allowing Japanese researchers to apply to some of the programme on an equal basis to Europeans. \u00a0The deal is the latest global expansion of the \u20ac93.5 billion programme, following agreements with New Zealand, Canada and South Korea. Japan is the most populous country to join so far.<\/p>\n

2. NEW:\u00a0<\/b>FMS Faculty Pause on NIH Applications<\/b><\/p>\n

Given the current uncertainty surrounding NIH funding, Faculty Executive Board have taken the decision to pause all new applications to NIH. This applies across all NIH grant opportunities. Applications to this funder will only be considered in exceptional circumstances. 3. NEW:\u00a0<\/b>European Research Council Announces \u20ac2.8 Billion Work Programme for 2027:\u00a0<\/b>https:\/\/erc.europa.eu\/news-events\/news\/new-erc-work-programme-sets-out-2027-funding-opportunities<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n

The European Commission has adopted the 2027 Work Programme of the European Research Council (ERC), unlocking over \u20ac2.8 billion to enable excellent scientists to develop their own ground-breaking frontier research. The ERC utilises an investigator-driven or ‘bottom-up’ approach to frontier research, and prioritises scientific excellence as the key measure of assessing proposals.<\/p>\n

4. NEW:\u00a0<\/b>European Commission launched a public consultation on the future of European Partnerships under Horizon Europe 2028-2034:\u00a0<\/b>https:\/\/www.ukro.ac.uk\/news\/%F0%9F%93%A2-european-commission-launched-a-public-consultation-on-the-future-of-european-partnerships-under-horizon-europe-2028-2034\/<\/a><\/p>\n

The European Commission launched a public consultation on the future Single Basic Act (SBA) for Joint Undertakings (JUs), Article 185 initiatives and thematic priorities for the European Partnership portfolio under Horizon Europe 2028-2034. The Marseille event will mark the start of a decade-long initiative focused on improving the structuring and coordination of research at the nexus of cultural heritage and climate change, across Europe but with a global perspective. Innovate UK and partners are hosting an in-person brokerage event to support consortium building for selected Horizon Europe 2027 Cluster 4 (Industry) and Cluster 5 (Mobility) calls. The event will bring together UK and EU organisations to explore collaboration opportunities in advanced manufacturing, materials, raw materials processing and sustainable aviation technologies. UK-based attendees may be eligible to claim up to \u00a3200 towards travel and accommodation costs. Registrations close on 12th August 2026.<\/p>\n

8. NEW:\u00a0<\/b>New SPRIND Challenge Supports AI-ready Health Datasets and Clinical Use Cases:\u00a0<\/b>https:\/\/www.sprind.org\/en\/actions\/challenges\/recoding-medicine<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n

The new SPRIND Challenge ‘Recoding Medicine’ by the German Federal Agency for Breakthrough Innovation (SPRIND) aims to improve access to high-quality, AI-ready health datasets and demonstrate their value in clinically relevant applications.\u00a0Funding is provided through pre-commercial procurement, with amounts per selected team of up to \u20ac480,000 in Stage 1, up to \u20ac455,000 in Stage 2 and up to \u20ac550,000 in Stage 3, plus VAT and subject to the approved cost estimate. Deadline:\u00a016 October 2026.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

9. NEW:<\/b>\u00a0Integrated Research Infrastructure Services for Climate Change Risks Opens Fourth Access Call:\u00a0<\/b>https:\/\/www.iriscc.eu\/article\/4th-open-call-for-access<\/a><\/p>\n

IRISCC is offering funded access to European climate change research facilities, data and expertise for projects addressing challenges such as ecosystem resilience, health risks, water management and food systems. Researchers, policymakers and industry professionals can apply for physical, remote, hybrid or virtual access, with up to \u20ac2,000 available for travel and subsistence.
