The British Academy is now accepting applications for the British Academy\/Leverhulme Small Research Grants scheme.<\/p>\n

The deadline for applications from Independent Scholars is 17:00 (GMT) on\u00a0Wednesday, 28 October 2026<\/b>.<\/p>\n

The deadline for all other applications is 17:00 (GMT) on\u00a0Wednesday, 4 November 2026<\/b>. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Purpose of the scheme<\/h3>\n
British Academy\/Leverhulme Small Research Grants\u00a0are available to support primary research in the humanities and social sciences. These awards, up to \u00a310,000 in value and tenable for up to 24 months, are provided to cover the cost of the expenses arising from a defined research project.<\/div>\n

Eligibility<\/span><\/h3>\n
Awards are open to postdoctoral scholars (or equivalent) who are ordinarily resident in the UK or currently employed overseas by a recognised UK overseas research organisation.<\/p>\n

Applications require the approval of the applicant’s employing institution but are not limited to those of any particular status (eg, Lecturer, Professor, etc).<\/p>\n

Applications may be made by independent scholars (who should choose ‘Independent Scholar’ as the relevant choice from the list of organisations in Flexi-Grant\u00ae).<\/p>\n

Co-applicants may be from anywhere in the world, but the Principal Applicant must be ordinarily resident in the UK or currently employed overseas by a recognised UK overseas research organisation for the duration of the award period.<\/p>\n

Level of award<\/span><\/h3>\n
Awards are up to \u00a310,000 in value and are provided to cover the cost of the direct expenses arising from a defined research project.\n<\/div>\n
