As you may know, it has come to that time of year where the sun is shining and students across campus are getting all glammed up for the society event of the year – the summer ball!
For me this ball was a really important and special event as it was where the BioSoc committee would hand over their responsibilities to the new executive committee. Having been chosen to be the Media Secretary for the Society in 2016-2017, it was really nice to see the whole committee together on stage and to have a chance to introduce ourselves to everyone in the society.
The BioSoc ball for 2016 was held at the Assembly Rooms, which is a beautiful venue. They serve a fantastic 4-course meal complete with soup, main course, coffee and of course chocolate gateaux for dessert!
I have to admit that there is nothing I love more than being able to take silly pictures with friends, so the photobooth was a laugh! Being able to use fun props and get a souvenir photo at the end meant that I will be able to remember great memories from the night.
It was quite emotional saying good bye to the BioSoc committee for this year,. They have really done a great job organising so many exciting socials, charity events and big events, like the summer and Christmas balls. It all ended with a charity raffle, with proceeds going towards Melanie, a Newcastle Biology student who needs a life saving operation. All in all we managed to raise £245 for a great cause.
As the year comes to a close, we as a committee are planning the events for the next academic year and we hope to really make BioSoc better than eve. So if you are part of the School of Biology, I highly encourage for you to get involved as we have a lot of plans in the works that we hope you will really enjoy!
