I spent my first year at Henderson Hall, it’s a few miles off the campus and often requires a transportation of some sort to get in and out from the city. But I loved it. I was one of the lucky ones to have Old Hall as my home, the “nicest” one of the buildings, according to other students. And to be honest, I couldn’t agree more. En suite, self-catered and the most beautiful facade of them all, like a baroque castle.
I picked ‘Hendo’ for it’s price, it’s relatively cheap in comparison to other halls, but I never realised that the transportation will cut a hole in my wallet. I didn’t realise how far it actually was from the Toon, but I made it work. I’m not a person who loves going out, so I pretty much lived my life very peacefully and with the help of big Sainsbury’s just around the corner, I had the most comfortable first year.
For someone who would prefer living in the city, I’d suggest something else though. There are plenty of affordable accommodations around Newcastle, and even though it would’ve been easier to live somewhere closer, Henderson Hall will always have a special place in my heart. Give it a chance, go and choose it! With relatively spacious rooms, a really nice kitchen and lounge, and your own bathroom, you can’t go wrong.
