Are you the next budding Darcy Bussell? Or never danced in your life but fancy learning a couple of new moves to whip out come Saturday night?! Either way the Dance Society probably has a class for exactly what you had in mind!
If I could give you one nugget of advice for your university career, it’d without a doubt be to join a society! They’re such a good way to make new friends, to give you some light relief from your hard work studying and help keep that beer belly at bay.
From ballet to street to contemporary to tap, there’s a vast array of classes, all with separate classes to cater for beginners, intermediate and advanced dancers so there’s something for everyone. You’ll come across people who are buying their very first pair of dance shoes come freshers week, to people who are onto their 100th scruffy pair.
If you like to get competitive in your sports, the Dance Society take part in several inter-university competitions a year which you can audition for to enter the team! The competitions are great fun and a fantastic way to get really integrated into the dance family, as well as allowing you to challenge and push yourself to bring in aaall the trophies!
However, if you’re just looking for a bit of a fun way to let off steam you can just go along to the classes, learn some routines and work on your technique whilst making some really strong friendships! The weekly socials also give you an opportunity to let your hair down, dress up in outrageous costumes and pay a liiiittle less attention to your dance technique (careful not to injure yourself whilst showing off your ‘perfect pirouette’ on the dance floor though…)
The real highlight of the year is the annual showcase where we really get to show off our hard work. We work really hard to put on an A-MAZING show which is so much fun and is never disappointing!
This year’s show is coming up very soon!
