Guide to Geography Society

A Picture of Becky

Newcastle Geography Society is the first student society I joined as a Fresher! It’s a great way to meet new people and make friends who all share a passion for Geography! It’s a very popular student led society that organises lots of events and activities throughout the year…

Here are some of the highlights:

Geography Balls

My favourite social event in Geography society has to be the balls! They are biannual- one in Winter and one in Summer. Its a perfect excuse to dress up fancy and eat fabulous food all in great company! The atmosphere is always lively and you’re bound to have a ball (pun intended).

Themed Socials

Geography is renowned for its socials! There is a social within the first week of term which is a fun way to meet new people on the same course as you. Fancy dress is a must! Themes range from ‘around the world’ to ‘school days’. Newcastle Geography Society also teams up with other Newcastle University departments for socials – the more the merrier!

Sports Teams

The Newcastle Geography Society organises netball, hockey and football matches between other subjects. This is another great way to meet people and keep healthy at the same time!

Trips Abroad

Once a year the Geography Society venture abroad for a weekend social. In the past couple of years there have been trips to Amsterdam and Dublin! Not only can you explore new places but  with a bunch of great people and its always good value too!
