I know, I know, Quilliam Brothers is a bit of a mouthful, but that’s not the kind of mouthful we are here to talk about. Food, glorious food is what has brought you to this post, and I’m going to share with you one of the worst kept secrets in Newcastle. Usually, when somebody mentions a good meal for good money I’m a bit dubious but also, equally as intrigued. Quilliams is in the heart of the city, only a short walk from the student union, making it a prime lunching location and that’s only one of its many qualities that keeps me raving on about it. So let’s get down to the nitty gritty, with my three reasons I think you won’t be able to get enough of Quilliams.
1. Come Dine with Tea: QB is actually a tea house, meaning as well as the beautiful food on offer they have an pretty impressive list of hot beverages. So whether you’re nutty but nice or a strawberry cream kinda guy they’ve got it covered, and they’ve got it covered cheap. £2.45 for a pot of tea is music to a student’s ears.
2. The Freshest of Scran: As Quilliams is first and foremost a tea shop, the menu is comprised of smaller bites and lunch-y bits but it’s definitely enough to keep you going between lectures. Stotties and salads make up the mass of the menu, only coming in at £4.95 with an NUS card, you can’t really complain. And, the food is prepared fresh in store, so it’s the perfect way to break up your day.
3. Things Just got Quirky: Now, Quilliams takes the word ‘quirky’ and runs a mile with it. We aren’t just talking a little different, we are talking beanbag seats, a cinema room and midnight closes. Who doesn’t love a good caffeine fix after a long library sesh?! And, possibly my favourite part, you can even enjoy your brew over a game of scrabble or jenga – keeping your brain on top form between lectures.
I could ramble on about Quilliams and what it’s got on offer for hours but this student friendly tea house is definitely one to check out for yourself.
