In the final year of the BA in Folk and Traditional Music you decide what your major study to be – project, dissertation or performance. All of theses options give you the freedom to focus your studies on something that really interests you.
I decided to major in performance as performing is something I have always loved to do. ‘Final Recitals’, as they are called, are 40 minute performances held at The Sage Gateshead. You have the creative freedom to choose what instruments will be accompanying you, and what kind of material you would like to play. My recital will feature music from some of my favourite composers from the British Isles, Cape Breton and Scandinavia.
I am currently in the process of rehearsing with my band in the lead up to my final recital on 2 June! It’s a lot of fun getting to play music with your friends – just one of the pleasures of studying a degree in something that I love!
The recital is open to the public, with assessors also in the audience. They place on 2 June and 3 June. Please do come along if you would like to hear what we have all been up to during our four years on this degree!
We are lucky to have the opportunity to perform in such an amazing and professional venue. This is the hall I’ll play my recital in.
