I still remember how I anxiously awaited day and night for all five of my university offers to come in and, if I remember correctly, Newcastle University was the last to reply. It was honestly one of the most nerve-wracking moments of my entire life. Even before I got a conditional offer from Newcastle University, I knew in my heart that it would be my firm choice if I ever got in. Two years later and now, here I am: writing student blogs aimed at potential students like yourself.
What made me choose Newcastle University as my firm choice was a mixture of personal reasons and basically the awesomeness of the University itself. I had the privilege of staying in Newcastle while I completed my foundation programme (equivalent to A-levels) and I just fell in love with the city and the University in those eight months.
The University’s campus is situated right in the middle of the city and everything is pretty much a short walk away. For me, this was one of the University’s biggest selling points as I could just pop into town in between lectures and run errands if I ever needed to. The social life in Newcastle is great as well and I’m not just talking about the nightlife (which you’ve probably heard loads about by now). They pretty much have something to suit anyone’s fancy.
The University also has really good student services and if you don’t utilise them once you’re a Newcastle University student, then you’re just missing out. The Careers Service is literally one of my favourite services the University has to offer. They’ve helped me boost my employability in ways I could never have done myself.
I could sit here all day and list every single reason why I chose Newcastle University as my firm choice and I wouldn’t be done. I don’t regret my choices one bit and I hope you don’t either. If Newcastle University is your firm choice too, we can’t wait to welcome you to our wonderful family here in the Toon!
