The Student Room March Roundup

Here’s a roundup of the most popular questions from our forum on The Student Room this month

Accommodation

Hey, My girlfriend and I are hoping to go to newcastle univercity this year as we've both recieved conditional offers. We're not sure yet if we're going to apply for the same accomodation or different and we were wondering if we did decided to apply to different places would we still be allowed to visit each other in the respective places or are you only allowed into the buildings if you live there? Many thanks, James and Kate

Students are allowed to visit friends in other residences, but overnight visitors are not allowed. Each resident is also responsible for any guests that visit them including their behaviour on-site.

We do offer accommodation options for couples, you can find out more information about this here.

Course Offers

Hi, Do you know if any offers have been given out for Law yet? My daughter sent her application off on December. Thanks in advance.

The Law School are giving out offers as they work through applications. December and January are when the bulk of applications are submitted, so it’s not unusual for the School to still be processing applications in March.

The City

Hi, I'm currently considering Newcastle as my firm choice, but I'm worried that I'll get tired of the crowds, noise, and general scene of a big city (sounds silly I know). Are there many woods/parks/green spaces that are close to the University? Thanks!
There’s no need to worry as Newcastle is a lot quieter than some big cities and it’s a lot less crowded too! We are very lucky in Newcastle because the city is surrounded by large parks, woods and we even have our very own beach on the Quayside in Summer!

Located closest to our campus we have Leazes Park and Exhibition park that are both beautiful places for a walk or for doing some studying in the sun. Located just outside the city we have Jesmond Dene which is a lovely woodland valley that even has a miniature zoo. For more suggestions have a look at what one of our bloggers has to say.

Freshers Week

Hi I'm Gabriel! It's very likely that I am going to firm the offer from Newcastle that I have for biomedical sciences is there a "pre-freshers" course before you go into freshers week? Be it for music, or any other kinda week where you can get to meet people going to the university too!

Early arrivals week usually runs the week before Freshers’ week starts. This is a chance for any students who are arriving early or for local students to get involved in various activities and meet new people before everyone else arrives on campus for the main event ‘Freshers’ week’.

The Students’ Union will release details of these events nearer to the time. It’s a good idea to keep an eye on their website for updates.

Our societies will also be running events throughout early arrivals and Fresher’s week. It is likely that the Music society will put on several events throughout the week.
