May was a pretty busy month on our Student Room forum, and one thing that seems to be on everyone’s minds – accommodation.
Here’s a roundup of some of the most frequently asked questions we’ve received in the month of May.
If you’re looking for properties in the private sector, NU Student Homes could help!
NU Student Homes is a property management service offering students a large degree of independence with the University always on hand to deal with any problems that may arise.
Plus, there are no agency fees and you do not have to supply a guarantor (such as a parent) for your rent.
If you’re looking for more advice, the Students’ Union also has some Housing Advice on their website and you can contact them directly to get some personal advice.
Looking for a flatmate for next year? Our Accommodation Services have a Find a Flatmate scheme which can help you get in touch with other Newcastle University students who are looking for others to live with. They also give advice and guidance when it comes to finding a property.
No, accommodation at Newcastle is NOT allocated on a first come, first served basis. As long as you apply before the 30 June deadline (and fulfill the other relevant criteria) you will come under the New Students’ Guarantee. Room allocation is done randomly to try and make it as fair as possible. There’s information about the room allocation procedure here.
The Accommodation Service also help with room swaps, so if you’re really not happy with the room you’re allocated it might be possible to switch with another student. Once allocations start going out the Accommodation Service will have a Facebook page up to help connect people who want to swap.
