Most of our students have headed home to relax for the summer. But here are four of our courses that let you do awesome things during the vacation.
Summer begins with the annual Newcastle Summer Music Festival organised by our music students each June. The Festival brings together over 100 genre-spanning musicians across 7 events, from folk music in the pub to opera in a local café. As well as the Festival, Music students also give summer recitals in prestigious venues like the Sage Gateshead.

A team of third and fourth year Mechanical and Systems Engineering students compete each year to design, manufacture and race a single-seater race car. They compete against universities from across the world in the IMechE UK Formula Student Competition, which is judged by top-level engineers and business specialists from the motorsport industry.

All our Archaeology student spend four weeks of the summer gaining fieldwork experience. It’s fun, helps develop key skills and will impress any future employers. Past projects have included the excavation of Britain’s oldest steelworks and the first building ever constructed for public Christian worship, in Rome.

Third year students on our three Marine Science degrees have the chance to visit Bermuda in September. They explore new and diverse tropical habitats including coral reefs, seagrass beds, mangrove forests, coastal sand dunes, inland caves and uninhabited islands.
