Tips for Moving Home After Uni

So, the much-awaited moment of our academic year is FINALLY here – hello summer! However, some of us have the hurdle known as exams to get over before feeling liberated, but it’s never too early to start prepping for a break right? Whether you’re going home, staying in Newcastle for a NWE work placement or travelling to soak up the sunshine at a beach destination; we all have a great deal of errands to get through before kicking-back for summer.

Here are some tips that will assist you for your move-out date…

  • Prepare storage boxes/tape/bubble wrap

When moving in, everything seemed much easier piling things up in an empty room. Here comes the tough time where we have to sort our “to keep” and “to throw” into boxes. Some of us will be driving home with our things while the rest will be using storage companies, either way you can get various box sizes at cheaper rates via eBay and Amazon, or purchase some from your storage company itself.Screen Shot 2015-05-17 at 15.06.44

  • Give or donate items

After storing items, there’s a whole load of things that you aren’t sure why you even bought them in the first place. Don’t just throw them away! Ask around any of your flat mates/friends if they would want them. After all, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure, right? Of course, there are always charity stores that would benefit as well! Never say never to more karma points.

  • Time-management before jetting off

Like everything else in life, plan out the time you’ve got left! Organize a schedule so you don’t have to tick-off the to-do-list frantically at the eleventh-hour. Why pay extra £50 for cleaning fees all because there wasn’t enough time for you to clear and tidy up your accommodation?
