With the turkey and tinsel firmly behind us, it’s time to turn our thoughts to fresh starts, new beginnings and finally getting up off the sofa! Luckily, with so much on in the Toon this January, you’ll have no problem filling your calendar with energising events. We’ve handpicked some of our favourites…

Annual Cluny Cheese Festival, The Cluny

4-6 January

Enjoy coupling fine cheeses with tasty local beers as The Cluny brings a weekend of post-festive feasting, complete with its very own cheese market. Warm up with a fondue while The Cluny serves up great food and live music alongside cheese themed fun and games.

De-stress Running Club, West Jesmond

Mondays and Wednesdays through January

Satisfy those itchy feet and take to the picturesque pathways of Jesmond with Give it a Go’s friendly De-stress Running Club. Running is a great way to relieve stress or anxiety (as well as shifting a few extra Christmas pounds!), and our sports ambassadors will be at hand to fully support you along the way.

Spontaneous Potter, The Stand Comedy Club

15 January

Love all things Harry Potter? Then you’ll love Spontaneous Potter! Grab your robes and join some of the UK’s most critically-acclaimed comedy improviser muggles as they weave an entirely new Potter adventure before your eyes.

Plus, with over 10 years’ side-splitting experience, The Suggestibles return once again to The Stand Comedy Club on the 17th with their fast-paced, laugh-a-minute improv show. Expect stories, skits, songs and most of all, the unexpected!

Restaurant Week, Various locations

21-27 January

Inside the Staircase: David Rudolf in Conversation, Tyne Theatre & Opera House

True crime fans will be pleased to hear that successful Netflix documentary, The Staircase’s defense attorney David Rudolf will be in town to shed some luminol on his struggles with the case, as well as answering all your burning questions and getting to grips with the bizarre ‘Owl Theory’.

Lost Voice Guy, Northern Stage

21 January

Following his spectacular Britain’s Got Talent 2018 win, Lee Ridley returns, razor-sharp wit in tow, to his hometown of Newcastle to headline Northern Stage’s Giving Voice charity comedy show. The event aims to raise awareness for speech and language therapy, as well as funds for increased accessibility in theatre and in educational provision for people with speech and language needs.
