A snow-dusted campus marks a frosty start to March, and may have us wondering if winter will ever end! But don’t worry, with the holidays just around the corner and longer, lighter evenings on the horizon; it’s time to spring into action and enjoy one or two of these top Toon events…
Our very own students help kick start the month with a glorious production, celebrating 150 years of music at one of the city’s oldest and grandest venues, Tyne Theatre & Opera House. Spanning the years and genres, Tunes Over Tyne offers an eclectic mix of performances paid in homage to the North East’s vibrant music scene.
Also this month, enjoy an enchanting production of Into the Woods, Mock the Week comedians Katherine Ryan and Ed Byrne taking to the stage and even an all-star Easter panto!
Climb the narrow spiral staircase and take in stunning views atop one of Newcastle’s most iconic landmarks, Grey’s Monument. Among Give it a Go‘s most popular trips, rubbing shoulders with Earl Grey is a definite tick off your Toon Bucket List!
Lights, camera, action! Step behind the scenes for an exclusive peek into the glamorous world of television and radio with Give it a Go’s BBC backstage tour. From parking yourself in the prestigious presenter’s chair to getting the inside scoop fresh from the newsroom, or even making your own television show; no two tours are the same!
In celebration of Hinamatsuri (Japan’s Girls’ Festival) and International Women’s Day, it’s konnichiwa to all things feminine at Sky Apple Café! Drawing inspiration from renowned Japanese artists and serving up an array of traditional Hinamatsuri dishes, this unique event in Heaton’s popular vegan cafe is an absolute must for those with a taste for Asian culture.
There’s a score to be settled and the mighty St James’ Park is the venue as we get set to take on our rivals, Team Northumbria. Cheer on our lads as they kick, ruck and scrum their way to victory, before settling in to watch Newcastle Falcons take on Northampton Saints at this momentous rugby occasion.
Boasting to be the cheesiest event in the North East this year, enjoy a wide variety of your favourite fromages as they’re grilled, baked and stretched to perfection by a host of local and national street food vendors.
From artisan cheeses to mac ‘n cheeses, there’ll be cheese to suit all tastes, alongside a spread of the finest DJs, live bands and interactive entertainment; for a guaranteed gouda time, you’d feta not miss it!

Kicking off with a glitzy Opening Ceremony at our old favourite, Tyneside Cinema, join fellow film enthusiasts for a full weekend of cinema classics from around the globe.

Ten competitors, two days, and only one can call themselves Top Bun! For the third year running Wylam Brewery invites local eateries to step up to the challenge and create the best burger for just £3. Add a side of fries, drinks and DJs, and this years event is sure to be a winner.
So, who has the best burgers in town? Will last year’s champions Lola Jeans reign supreme once more, or perhaps newcomers Grumpy Panda will pip them to the post with a delicious vegan offering? There’s only one way to find out!
