Come and meet Deborah Levey the author of the Man Booker Prize shortlisted novel ‘Swimming Home’. Deborah will be discussing her new book alongside William Feinnes in Kings Hall on the 10th November at 7.15pm. Get your tickets here.
Give it a Go are running various activities you can take part in this semester. One of the most popular trips is the tour that will take you up inside Greys Monument and bring you out at the viewing deck at the top.
It’s just a small 164 step climb to see the best sights in Newcastle from one of the most historic landmarks in the city. Tours take place on the 9th November and slots are every 30 mins from 1pm until 3pm, tickets are £2 and you can book online.
Insights is a program run by the University that offers free lectures to the public. On the 17th of November, three researchers from our Faculty of Medical Sciences will be lecturing on the cutting edge of science and discussing how their findings may underpin the medical treatments of tomorrow.
This event will be taking place in the Curtis Auditorium at 5.30pm.
The ice rink is back again this year! Starting on the 12th November right through to the 26th February you can head down to the Centre for Life and and have a whirl around on Newcastle’s only outdoor ice rink! Don’t forget there are special deals for student tickets.
The fantastic International Christmas Market returns to the streets of Newcastle again starting on 18th November until 11th December 2016 where you’ll find all sorts of unusual Christmas gifts and festive foods you can’t find anywhere else.
You can try French crepes, Spanish paella, mouthwatering chocolate cakes and biscuits from the Italian biscotterie or wonderful cakes and pastries from the French patisserie.

From the guys who did Battle of the Burger comes The Curry Battle where 8 Curry Vendors go toe to toe for a spice filled bonfire weekend of foody goodness! The event takes place at Wylam brewery starting at 5pm 4 November and midday on 5th November. It’s free entry and there will be fireworks on the Saturday evening.
Bright Club blends comedy, music, new writing, research and performance all into one night. Locally sourced academics will take to the stage performing comic routines centered around their research.

The city of Newcastle will be transformed into a sparkling winter wonderland on the 17 November. Get into the Christmas spirit with Metro Radio, Cllr Hazel Stephenson the Lord Mayor of Newcastle and other special guests as 20,00 lights all over the city are illuminated.
