MADAMA BUTTERFLY, TYNE THEATRE & OPERA HOUSE

3RD OCTOBER

The Russian State Opera is back in Toon with a sparkling rendition of Puccini’s heart-breaking opera. With a grand setting, dazzling costumes and a huge live orchestra, Madama Butterfly is a must for theatre-goers this October.

THAI-KWONDO & CRAFT BEER CALLING, WYLAM BREWERY

5TH – 6TH & 18th – 20th October

The Thai Battle is back and tastier than ever! Chow down on tasty taster potions from a plethora of Newcastle’s top Thai vendors, before casting your vote to decide who gets crowned king of Thai-Kwondo.

Plus, whether it’s the hoppy allure of craft beer or simply the mention of beer at all, Wylam is a picture perfect venue to enjoy sampling a huge selection from some of the world’s top craft breweries at this year’s Craft Beer Calling.

SPOOKY SCREENINGS, NEWCASTLE CASTLE

15th – 31st October

Dating back more than 1800 years, Newcastle Castle is steeped in horrible histories. So, what better venue to host a whole bunch of spooky Halloween screenings? From The Exorcist to Hocus Pocus, there’s a chilling cinema experience to suit all tastes!

19TH OCTOBER

Not only is BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art a great place to snap a top-notch shot of the Quayside from its 5th floor viewing deck, but it’s also the UK’s largest dedicated contemporary art institution!

So, soak up some culture this October as award-winning poet and artist, Heather Phillipson presents a thought-provoking series of videos, sounds and objects suggesting alternative forms of coupling, gendering, transportation and intimacy in her latest exhibit.

COCKTAIL MAKING MASTERCLASS, MEET OUTSIDE NUSU

19TH OCTOBER

From muddling and mixing, to shaking and stirring, you’ll become a cocktail connoisseur in no time! Throw in games and nibbles, and it’s not hard to see why this is one of Give it a Go’s most popular events.

NEWCASTLE OKTOBERFEST, TIMES SQUARE OR ANTLER

22nd – 30th October

Think lederhosen, bratwurst, pretzels and schnitzel as both Times Square and newcomer Antler try their hand at bringing the best of Bavaria to Newcastle. Pull up a bench, grab a stein and join the fun – Prost!

TERROR IN THE TUNNEL, VICTORIA TUNNELS

27th October

Pop your hard hats on and journey back in time, navigating a maze of underground tunnels at TripAdvisor’s (and our!) No.1 Top Things to Do in Newcastle. And now, especially for Halloween, plunge into the darkness of the tunnels on an extra terrifying tour – if you dare!

SCUBA DIVING, MEET OUTSIDE NUSU

27th October

Loving our Harry Potter-esque campus architecture? You ain’t seen nothing yet! Join Give it a Go in heading up north to Alnwick Castle, setting for Hogwarts in the first two Harry Potter films. Plus, if visiting the actual Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry isn’t enough, there’ll be a whole host of spooky Halloween themed activities to enjoy to boot!
