Top 14 Things to do in June

June is a month of festivals, celebrations and (hopefully!) sunshine here in Newcastle. If you’re sticking around this summer, you’ll not want to miss these top events…

Fine Art Degree Show, Hatton Gallery

1 – 15 June

Showcasing the next generation of artistic talent! Pop along to the Hatton Gallery, right here on campus, and delight in the cutting-edge creations of our final year Fine Art students. Featuring a diverse set of artistic practices, ranging from painting, print, photography, sculpture, video, and sound art to performance, installation, textiles and new media.

Leave Newcastle Happy, Various Locations

3 – 13 June

From responsibly shedding your leftover clothes, books and cutlery to clearing your cupboards of unused crockery and electricals, our environmentally savvy students at Leave Newcastle Happy have you covered this summer. You can even get involved in an end of term litter pick and do your bit to help leave our fabulous city sparkling!

Plus, to celebrate World Oceans Day on the 8th, NUSU will be leading a student beach clean to help keep Tynemouth Longsands beach beautiful. The perfect excuse to hop on a metro and enjoy this award-winning stretch of golden sands!

Meet Guide Dogs, Students’ Union

5 June

Great news, the dogs are back on campus! For just a £3 donation not only will you get to meet, pet and make best friends with a gorgeous Guide Dog, but you’ll also be donating to an amazing charity, Guide Dogs UK. There’s nothing quite like befriending an adorable pup to relax this exam season.

Stu Brew Brewery Bash, Merz Court

7 June

Come one, come all, and sample the heavenly hoppy goodness of our very own (and Europe’s first) student-run micro-brewery! Stu Brew invite everyone to join them at Merz Court on the last day of term, as they serve up a delicious range of craft keg and cask beers in celebration of another amazing academic year.

Explore 500 years of history and heritage, unique geology and stunning natural landscapes, all by kayak! Choose from a range of specially selected tours including a Sunrise Kayak, Breakfast at Riley’s Fish Shack or the iconic Tyne Bridges Tour. Whichever you choose, it’s sure to be an adventure to remember.

Plus, if boats are your bag then you won’t want to miss our RNLI Public Lecture on the 13th. Featuring Atlantic rowing record breaker, Phil Kite and Dee Caffari, the first woman to sail single-handedly and non-stop around the world “the wrong way”.

Boiler Shop Emporium, Boiler Shop

7-8 June

Foodies rejoice, as one of the city’s trendiest venues, Boiler Shop, welcomes finger-licking farmers market fare from some of the North’s finest vendors to their quirky Grade II* listed setting. Get ready to enjoy great food, a multitude of craft stalls and a buzzing market atmosphere!

Or, if you’re looking for a contemporary event with less bite and more beat, World Headquarters is the place to be this June. Boasting an impressive line-up of some of the finest underground electronic music artists around, Warmer Days Weekender is not to be missed!

Newcastle Vegan Festival, The Assembly Rooms

9 June

Get ready to chow down on the most delicious green, natural and meat-free options in existence as Newcastle Vegan Festival returns this month! Enjoy vegan chocolate, cheese, cakes, and takeaway food; plus clothing, animal sanctuary stalls, free samples and much more. Stuffing your face never felt so environmentally responsible!

Castle Film Screenings, Newcastle Castle

9, 14 & 21 June

A cinema experience like no other! The historic Great Hall of Newcastle Castle Keep makes an impressive venue to enjoy a cult classic film screening. This month, climb the spiral staircase and enjoy Romeo & Juliet, An American Werewolf in London or The Lost Boys in this most enchanting medieval setting.

Colour Obstacle Rush, Newcastle Racecourse

15 June

20 obstacles, 20 music zones, 8 colour stations and 5k; the challenge is set. Slip on your running shoes and head to Newcastle Racecourse for the most eccentric fun run in town. Think inflatables, foam cannons, slides and space hoppers – getting fit for summer has never been such a blast!

Or, head to the racecourse on the 7th and have yourself a real good time with an open air screening of Bohemian Rhapsody.

The Hoppings, Town Moor

21 – 29 June

An event that needs no introduction, June sees the return of everyone’s favourite annual Town Moor bonanza, The Hoppings! Grab a candy floss, hook a duck or enjoy the thrills and spills of over 300 rides at Europe’s largest travelling funfair.

Tipping Point Live, Ouseburn

21 – 22 June

Set to return for its 11th year, Tipping Point Live (formerly Evolution Emerging) showcases the region’s best new music from up and coming artists in the heart of the picturesque Ouseburn Valley. Gracing the stages of popular venues such as Tyne Bar and The Cluny, and inviting a range of artists representing genres such as jazz, dance, alternative and rock, this year’s event is set to be bigger, fresher, and better than ever before.

The Great British Gin Festival, Civic Centre

22 June

Sample a mammoth range of exquisite gins from around the world at The Great British Gin Festival right here in Newcastle. Throw in some presentations and talks from industry experts, live music, a brilliant atmosphere and a slice of lime; let the festivities beGIN!

Undergraduate Open Day, Newcastle University

28 – 29 June
