Just a short walk from Monument will bring you next to Nelson Street which would be hard to miss, as the street has now been transformed into a colourful festive scene complete wth christmas puddings and snowmen.
The Univeristy Christmas tree in the Old Quad is a must see decoration. The tree itself is grand enough but once it’s covered in twinkling lights it provides the perfect christmassy additon to campus.
The shops on Northumberland Street get into a festive spirit of their own decorating the store however the banners of giant stars and lights that stretch from one side of the street to the other look extra festive!
The unveiling of Fenwicks window marks the beginning of Christmas festivities in the North East. This annual display is one of the largest Christmas showcases in Europe and attracts visitors from all over. This year’s concept is inspired by the 150th anniversary of children’s author Beatrix Potter and characters such as Peter Rabit can be seen in the windows. It’s sure to get you in the christmas spirit.
The area around Grey Street is naturally busy at Christmas due to the festive markets that are held here throughout the month. It might be difficult to notice all of the beautiful decorations here when there is so much offered by the market stalls, but if you wander down the street you’ll quickly spot the layers of lights floating above your head.
