The UK is famous for its summer festivals. From Glastonbury to V Fest and Leeds, there’s something for everyone. But did you know the North East is home to some fantastic festivals too?
Here’s a roundup of some of our favourites happening over the summer.
Chill out on a deck chair and spend the day in the beautiful Victorian park with live outdoor music.
There are plenty of food stands to keep you going and you’re right next to the seafront – perfect for a nice stroll or a dip in the sea!
It takes place on various dates from June to August in Bents Park with artists including UB40, Gladstone, Rose Parade for the most up to date information head to Facebook. And the best news… it’s also free!
This is another good one for those who like music, taking place at Times Square in the centre of Newcastle.
Over the course of three days, the festival will see a range of artists perform, including Newcastle Uni alumni Maximo Park headlining on the 31st July and Fatboy Slim on the 29th July.

Chase Park Festival is the perfect chance to gather your mates, pack up a picnic, and chill out at this beautiful park located in Wickham. This year the festival on Saturday 6th August. The line-up features Reverend & The Makers, Stornoway, Ben Ottewell, The Cornshed Sisters, Newcastle’s RnB pop high-risers SoShe and more…
It’s a great day out and one of the only festivals in the UK to have the gold standard for accessibility. The festival runs 12pm – 9pm and tickets are just £9 – a bargain! It’s usually popular so book your tickets quickly to avoid missing out.
If you have never been to a food festival before, you’ve got to give it a try! It’s a great way to sample local and different foods and the North Shields Proper Food and Drink Festival is always a great day out.
Boasting lots of interesting dishes, drinks and other mouth-watering treats it’s a guaranteed winner. It’s also conveniently located near the coast, where you can find more fun-filled activities.
Taking place on Sat 20th – Sun 21st August in North Shields, it’s only a 25 minute Metro ride from our main campus.
Here’s another festival totally dedicated to food, but this time with a German theme. Newcastle’s Oktoberfest offers unique tastes from all over Germany, such as Schweinebraten (roast pork) and pretzel (twist-knot bread).
This year the event takes place in Times Square from 27th – 30th October. Whether you’re a foodie, a fan of Germany, or just want to try something new, get the date in your diary now.
