Top 5 Things to do when you Visit

Coming to check out campus soon? Whether you’re heading over for a Post-Application Open Day, Campus Tour or just fancy a stroll around, it’s well-worth extending your visit and exploring what the rest of the city has to offer…

QUAYSIDE

Probably one of the city’s most iconic areas, but for good reason. Have a stroll down Grey’s Street (voted one of the most beautiful streets in the country) towards the lure of swanky bars, beautiful surroundings, and the famous Millennium Bridge (if you time it right you might even see it in full-swing!) On a Sunday there’s even the market to keep you entertained and fed!

SHOPPING

With a range of locations to choose from, if you’re more of an indoor shopper, there’s Eldon Square in the city centre, as well as the UK’s 2nd largest shopping centre – the Metro Centre – just a short trip away in neighbouring Gateshead. But city-centre shopping mustn’t be overlooked – with loads of retail chains and quirky boutiques to suit all tastes and budgets!

CULTURE

Whatever you’re into, there’s almost definitely something for you to do.

Feeling arty? There’s The BALTIC down by the Quayside, more independent galleries such as The Biscuit Factory, or even the uni’s own Hatton Gallery.

Up for a laugh? Why not check out one of many comedy venues the city has to offer, such as The Stand.

And not forgetting the music scene in the toon. The Metro Radio Arena attracts a multitude of international stars, whilst smaller venues such as The Cluny and The Head of Steam provide a more intimate setting for local talent.

FOOTBALL MAD

There’s no denying it, think Newcastle and that black and white strip will always spring to mind. As a city obsessed, why not immerse yourself in the toon army and take a tour around the famous St. James Park? And if timed right, you could even watch a match live!

FURTHER AFIELD

But it’s not just the city centre that the area has to offer. If you’ve got time for a little more exploration, take the opportunity to do just that! The sea-side town of Tynemouth (just 20 mins in the car or 40 by metro) offers a beautiful coastline, quirky cafes and a surfer’s paradise. Hadrians Wall is just a stones-throw away, and who could forget the iconic Angel of the North?
