The NUBS Impact Fund

The School Impact Fund is now accepting applications from all Business School T&R and T&S colleagues based in Newcastle. Applications from staff on research only contracts will also be considered

The objective of this fund is to enable knowledge exchange (KE) and impact activities which will help academics to maximise the impact from their research and contribute to the economy, health, social & cultural richness of our region and beyond. The Fund aims to support activities which enable researchers at all levels to engage with the public, private and voluntary, charity and social enterprise (VCSE) sectors and contribute to more effective engagement with external organisations that will enhance impact.

The kinds of activities that could be eligible for funding range from small amounts for travel (e.g. to meet with external stakeholders) to larger amounts for roundtable events with groups of stakeholders (e.g. to discuss research project design that will have strong pathways to impact or ensure that findings from research are disseminated in an impactful way). However, we want to encourage you to be creative and any ideas can be discussed at an early stage with the me, the Director of Impact, noting that the focus must be on non-academic stakeholders.

There are two streams of funding available:

  1. Up to £1,500: For individual researchers (could include pilot activities to develop pathways to impact for a grant application or seed corn opportunities leading to bids for the Faculty Impact Fund in 2020).
  2. Up to £5,000: These are for joint applications from two or more staff (bids from research communities are encouraged, as are bids that spread across subject groups). Bids including staff from other schools/faculties in the University are also welcomed, as are applications including NUL staff (NB. See specific details regarding NUL in the Guidance Notes).

For full details please see the guidance notes and application form on Sharepoint.

All applications must be submitted to NUBS Director of Research Inbox at nubsdirectorofresearch@ncl.ac.uk by 12 noon on Monday 10th February 2020 and must have the support of your R&I Lead.

If you have any questions about any aspect of this fund please contact Fiona Whitehurst (email: Fiona.Whitehurst@newcastle.ac.uk or tel: ext 81603).
