Sexual Violence Liaison Officers

Dear Colleagues,

Student Health and Wellbeing Services (SHWS) is looking to increase its team of Volunteer Sexual Violence Liaison Officers (SVLOs).

SVLOs provide one-to-one support and advice to any student who has experienced sexual violence (including sexual harassment) since coming to Newcastle University. The SVLOs role will vary depending on the student’s individual experience.

SVLOs also assist in raising staff and student awareness about the impact of sexual violence and harassment, via training delivery and supporting the development of a range of resources to promote the work of the team and the support available at the University. This document provides further information – if you have any questions or would like an informal chat prior to expressing your interest please contact jay.wallace@newcastle.ac.uk.

Closing date for expressions of interest: Monday 15 March 2021, 9:00.

To express your interest in this role, please send a statement of no more than 1000 words to jay.wallace@newcastle.ac.uk, demonstrating how you meet the essential criteria in the Person Specification.

Shortlisted applications will be invited to an interview w/c 22 March 2021.

Successful applicants will be asked to provide an email confirmation before the interview from their manager stating that they support their application, and can commit to an average of 3 hours per week for a two-year period.

Colleagues must be available to attend training for the role on the following dates, 10:30 – 16:30 each day:

Tuesday 27 – Thursday 29 April 2021

Tuesday 25 – Thursday 27 May 2021

Training usually takes place in Manchester (paid for by the University). However, we will update successful candidate(s) in line with government guidance closer to the time as restrictions related to COVID-19 may mean that training is delivered online.

Please can I ask you to pass on to colleagues who may be interested, and distribute widely amongst your internal University contacts.
