NCL Europe: Call for Europe Festival Events

NCL Europe

Dear colleagues,

As you may already be aware, Chris Whitehead (as HaSS Global Dean) and I have been working on the launch of the first, more formalised iteration of the Regional Interest Groups, to be focused on Europe and now christened NCL Europe.

One of the first steps for NCL Europe is the launch of a ‘Europe Festival’ (see overview document), which is expected to kick off in the week of 11 October 2021 and run throughout the autumn term. We would like to feature a wide range of events related to Europe (in its many and various forms!); as well as planning several new events, we would like to pull in Europe-focused activity that may already be planned by colleagues from across the University.

As well as bringing broader publicity to individual events, we hope that in working under the broad banner of the Europe Festival the whole will be greater than the sum of its parts: both reinforcing the continued importance of work in/on/with Europe to NU, and encouraging European activity to continue in future.

We would love to hear about any Europe-related events that you have planned (or are thinking of holding) between October and December 2021 – no matter what they are! We would be more than happy to promote small or targeted events alongside broader projects: if you are unsure whether we would be interested in including an event, please do err on the side of over-sharing. (Do note, however, that due to limited resources in the International Office all event management will need to be undertaken by the individual, team or unit/service that puts forward the event).

If you do have something in mind, it would be very helpful if you could share the name of the event; a sentence or two describing it, and its intended audience; and contact details for anyone who would be interested in getting involved. We plan to share this information (or an edited version) to publicise the Festival both in our internal NU comms (email/Sharepoint) and potentially on a public-facing page on the NU website; please do therefore let us know whether you would prefer any information you share to be for internal circulation only.

To share these details of potential Europe Festival events (or for more information on either the Festival or NCL Europe more generally), please contact International Relations and Partnerships Manager Alison Clarke (or, while she is on annual leave from 3rd to 10th September, her IR&P colleague Adam Richardson).

All best wishes,
Alison
